Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Assistant/Associate Director of Student Activities works to promote student engagement in educational, cultural, social, and recreational activities beyond the classroom. This position advises a portfolio of registered student organizations — including fraternities and sororities — providing guidance on budgeting, event planning, and program development. The role also manages the full student organization recognition process, coordinates the semesterly student organization fairs, and leads leadership training and development for recognized student groups. In addition, the Assistant/Associate Director helps new students transition into campus life by overseeing the Exploration Adventure orientation trip program, including staffing, planning, and logistics.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly oversee all student organization recognition processes, including organization recognition and renewal, annual training, student organization tracking platform, access to campus resources, and addressing organizational issues.

  • Advise a portfolio of recognized student organizations: Assist student organization leaders with program planning, development, and execution. Coordinate travel arrangements and lodging for student organization trips and conferences. Support all organization budget and purchasing tasks.

  • Serve as the Campus Administrator for Presence.io

  • Coordinate the new student organization process with Student Government Alliance and advise the sophomore class.

  • Coordinate all aspects of several campus traditions including the student organization fairs, Citrus Bowl, and Winter Classic

  • Create, negotiate, and execute performance contracts and vendor service agreements with artists, entertainment agents, and vendors for acts and services costing up to $5,000.

  • Oversee the Exploration Adventure Trip program, including leader recruitment and training, support for the development of annual trip itineraries, and management of trip related logistics (gear, food, transportation, supplies). Serve in an on-call capacity during XA trips in August.

  • Provide general advising and oversight of fraternity and sorority life (FSL) organizations. Assist FSL leaders with program planning, development, and execution.

  • Support departmental assessment efforts to ensure best practices and continued improvement. Design and implement assessment tools to evaluate student needs and interests, and the effectiveness of services, trainings, and programs.

  • Assist with the general management of facilities, equipment, and personnel during campus events and student activities.

  • In the absence of the Director of Student Activities, solve, triage or re-direct issues, questions, and/or concerns for appropriate resolution.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in student personnel services, higher education administration, or related field preferred.

  • One to two years post-Master’s experience preferred.

  • Experience in student advising, student activities programming, and major event coordination preferred.

  • Proven record of successful educational outreach and program delivery, preferably in a college setting.

  • Equivalent combination of education & experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of budget and financial procedures.

  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment by employing excellent written, listening, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated experience with desktop publishing, database related applications, canva, and social media.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with students through attendance at campus events, informal interaction, and organized programs.

Compensation Range:

$62,354 - $68,000 per year. Title and salary is commensurate with experience and education.
