This position is located at District 1 in Duluth and may have the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy, business need, and discussion with their supervisor.

This position exists to manage District 1’s signal systems, lighting systems, various warning flashers, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and Gopher State locating. Responsibilities include all aspects of scoping, designing, operating, and maintaining the systems.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of advanced para-engineering experience at the Engineering Specialist level (or equivalent) that demonstrates all the following:

• Experience with traffic control, signal design, lighting design, and/or traffic engineering standards, including familiarity with manuals and guidelines used by MnDOT or by other transportation agencies, consultants, or city/county engineering departments.

• Experience applying traffic engineering principles and standards.

• Experience designing and operating signal, lighting, and ITS systems.

• Valid Class D Driver’s License.
