Title: Substitute School Nurse

Qualifications:

  1. RN certification required.

  2. Preference given to current first aid and CPR certificates.

  3. Preference given to experience and/or training with youth.

  4. Such alternative to the above qualification as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports to: Building Principals

Supervises: Students, Assigned Classified Aides

Job Goal:To be a team member providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for all students by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in Southeast Polk; to be a part of the district dedicated to being an innovative, educational organization committed to providing learning experiences of superior quality which enable ALL students to successfully meet challenges now and in the future.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in developing school health program.

  2. Observe students on a regular basis to detect health needs.

  3. Instruct teachers on screening students for health defects.

  4. Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.

  5. Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.

  6. Assume authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.

  7. Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.

  8. Make recommendations on health needs of individual students.

  9. Make recommendation and implement Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.

  10. Assist school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.

  11. Other duties as assigned.
