Civil Service Title: (Civil Service Title: Licensed Practical Nurse)

Minimum Requirements:

Possession of a valid New York State Registered Professional Nursing (RN) license or valid New York State Licensed Professional Nursing (LPN) license.

Desired Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of practical nursing techniques;

• Ability to work with elementary, middle and/or high school students, staff and parents;

• Strong interpersonal skills;

• Good judgment;

• Ability to accurately record and report health/medical information;

• Ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions;

• Must have the ability to travel;

• Daily attendance is expected.

Position Summary/Responsibilities:

• Performs medical and/or emergency treatments of injuries and illness of students and staff as required; Dispenses

medications as needed;

• May attend to physical needs such as toileting, feeding, and lifting;

• Assists the School RN with daily triage of students with chronic and minor health concerns and communicates health

concerns to parents as needed;

• Maintains an awareness of student status recognizing and reporting adverse signs; Communicates and collaborates with

members of the health care team;

• Assumes responsibility for an assigned office in the absence of the school nurse, under the direction of the

District Medical Director;

• Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary committees as assigned;

• Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning

experiences;

• Records information on student health records, accident reports and sports eligibility forms;

• Assists with inventory of supplies;

• Extra hours may be required;

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
