Should a bookkeeper resume list a contract role that ended?

The cancelled contract stays on your résumé as a bookkeeper, because a client cancelling a project mid-engagement doesn't undo the periods you closed and reconciled. Give the line what a controller checks: the system you closed in, the accounts you reconciled, the last month tied out. Cut it only when the client cancelled before a month-end close ran, because nothing closed leaves nothing to verify. Leave a closed period off and a controller reads the gap as books gone wrong.
The month-end close decides if the contract role stays
A contract role in a bookkeeping seat is measured in closed periods, not in how the client's project turned out. Once a month-end close ran under your hands and the reconciliations tied out, that month is yours to claim, no matter what the client did with the project afterwards. Cancellation is their budget story, not your books.
A controller reads the dates on a bookkeeping line as periods and asks which of them closed under you. A closed month on a cancelled contract doesn't weigh less than a month a bookkeeper closed in a permanent seat.
The role comes off only when the client cancelled before a single close ran, because a line with no closed period gives a controller nothing to verify.
A short, cancelled engagement also tempts you to retitle the line as accounting consultant so it doesn't look as brief as it was. Bookkeeping records and reconciles; accounting interprets and reports, and a controller who sees them conflated on a bookkeeper résumé reads inexperience rather than range. Keep the exact title you held.
The recruiter screen carries the cancelled client, the résumé carries the close
The résumé line ends with the last month that tied out and doesn't say why your client stopped. The cancellation belongs in the recruiter screen, said once, books first: "The client shut the project down, and the books went back reconciled through the final close."
Read the contract line again as a controller would, cancellation out of view. If it names where you closed, what you reconciled, and a month that tied out, it holds. If it names only the client and a date range, you've listed a project rather than bookkeeping, and the closed month goes back in.
