Job Description Summary

Performs a wide variety of complicated maintenance work, involving setup, installation, alteration, repair or rearrangement of machines, facilities, or equipment and their related controls. Will work a substantial portion of the time in the electric and mechanical skill or trade. Will be required to perform maintenance work other than own specialty.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for setting up, maintaining, altering, installing, repairing or rearranging complex equipment or machines and their related controls.

  • Will diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform corrections with minimum of supervision.

  • Must be able to read, interpret and follow complicated drawings to make accurate alignment, fits or installations of parts, equipment, such as wiring, piping, etc.

  • Required to tear down, overhaul, and reassemble intricate mechanisms, machines, apparatus, etc. involving complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and lubricating systems.

  • Responsible for providing mechanical or electrical service on various types of machines or equipment, such as jig border, standard lathes, milling machines, welding equipment, boring mills and grinders, drills, punch press, press brakes, shears, saws, furnaces, motors; various process equipment, and control equipment such as relays, motor starters, control valves, rotometers, pressure switches, etc.

  • Required to service and repair various systems and components for chemical or caustic equipment such as tanks, piping, sumps, etc.

  • Responsible for performing repair or preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment, such as screw machines, straightener, pipe bender, autoclave, swager, welders, deburr equipment, pumps, automatic doors, cranes, fork lifts, battery (golf) carts, process equipment and their related control equipment. Installs, repairs or services such facility or production systems and their related controls as water, sanitary, generators, compressors, chemicals, compressed air, gas, steam, plumbing, and waste treatment.

  • Responsible for performing the most difficult repairing, installing or adjusting of the above machines or equipment, and performing work outside his specialty under the direction of supervision or higher rated personnel.

  • Required to operate machines and equipment to check the work performed and demonstrate satisfactory operating condition.

  • Required to co-ordinate re-start of equipment with knowledgeable, trained operators to insure satisfactory operation after repairs.

  • Responsible for operating various types of moving equipment used in installation and repair work, such as fork lift trucks, platform lift trucks, mobile crane, hoists, etc.

  • Must be able to perform other maintenance services besides own specialty.

  • May be required to work in controlled manufacturing zone, observing strict criticality and radiation protection regulations.

  • Performs duties and tasks conforming to all safety regulations and procedures.

  • Keeps facilities, materials and work areas clean and orderly, exercising good housekeeping practices.

  • Responsible for operating and maintaining equipment under specific plant permits and other regulations such as NPDES, DWQ, NRC, Etc.

  • Activities would include correct documentation and follow up to insure compliance.

  • Perform tooling changeovers.

  • Inspect and maintain process equipment tooling.

  • Adjust process equipment to maintain product within specification and to maximize yields.

  • Replace equipment tooling such as dies, punches and grinding wheels and perform routine maintenance on process equipment.

  • Maintain and dress grinding wheels.

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and make independent sound process judgments.

  • Must be able to perform mechanical measurements and visual inspections, as required.

  • Responsible for continuous adherence to all areas of industrial, radiation, and criticality safety regulations and requirements.

  • Interact with team leaders, maintenance coordinators, production advisors and other personnel to ensure setup and maintenance activities are consistent with production priorities.

  • Assists operators in troubleshooting process equipment issues.

  • Fabrication Only: Responsible for proper operation of gadolinium vibromills, sluggers and granulators.

  • Responsible for adjustments, tool inspections and tool change-out of production pellet presses, sinter test presses and pellet grinders.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate (or GED) or formal training in specialty or equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Associate degree in a maintenance specialty or trade school desired.

  • Shop Math, including decimals and fractions.

  • Read and interpret complex mechanical and electrical drawings, sketches, and schematics.

  • Three years of experience in electrical and mechanical fields of maintenance work or successful completion of the GE Hitachi Maintenance A – Mechanical/Electrical Trainee Program (GE Employees only).

  • Experience in operating at least two of the following types of machine equipment: milling machines, presses (for metal fabrication), grinders (for metal fabrication), saws (for metal fabrication), shears, lathes, deburr/edge contouring machines

  • Experience in manual welding (TIG or MIG) and fabrication. Three years of experience with at least two of the following gauges: micrometers, vernier scales and calipers, and dial indicators.

  • At least 2 years of experience with: (a) troubleshooting mechanical and/or hydraulic/pneumatic systems; (b) precision coupling and shaft alignment; (c) precision fitting; (d) machine leveling, installation, and set-up experience is highly desirable.

  • At least 2 years of experience with: (a) troubleshooting and servicing control circuits (PLC experience highly desirable); (b) industrial wiring including conduit and wire sizing per NEC; (c) 3-phase systems.

  • Experience with voltage levels up to 480. Good oral and written communication skills.

For controlled area assignments, must be able to successfully pass the Nuclear Safety Training Test, must wear protective clothing, and follow strict radiation protection, criticality, and industrial safety regulations. Must be medically and mentally capable of wearing appropriate respiratory equipment. Must pass all required IROFS testing elements.

Required to work shift work in accordance with business needs. Will be expected to respond to scheduled overtime, hold over or emergency call-in as required. May require employee wear a pager or cell phone. Able to handle heavy materials with forklifts, cranes and manually as required. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, and manipulate bulky, heavy machine tools and parts, sometimes in awkward positions. Must be able to climb and work at elevated levels. Corrected 20/20 vision and color distinction.

Please note that this position requires a comprehensive onboarding and training period of approximately 12 weeks. During this time, the successful candidate must be available to work exclusively on the day shift, regardless of the ultimate shift assignment for the permanent role.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the base pay for this position is $37.48/hour. After 6 months of satisfactory performance the pay will increase to $42.38/hour.While working the off-shift, you will receive an additional night-shift adder of $1, this transitions to 10% after 5 years of service.

Other working hours and supporting OT may vary to support business need.
