Inclusive Excellence Statement Advertised Job Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities Engineering Support, the Assistant Director of Engineering Support serves as the technical subject matter expert for engineering support functions related to the maintenance and operations for the University of South Carolina-Columbia Campus. The Assistant Director is responsible for oversight of engineering standards and provides technical guidance and design support for repair and maintenance projects for the University of South Carolina-Columbia Campus. Additionally, the Assistant Director will provide support and oversight for the operation of the campus utility systems, facilities conditions assessments, and other internal operational processes. The Assistant Director will provide code review and assist with ensuring that projects align with applicable construction codes. The Assistant Director serves as a designated plan reviewer to meet OSE plan review requirements for campus projects. Finally, the Assistant Director will lead engineering design efforts for in-house minor construction and maintenance repairs. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Knowledge of construction, renovation, and large facility systems including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing; of an organization's mission, programs and objectives. - Knowledge of an organization's structure, the people who manage the work, and the processes applicable to government work; of management principles; of applicable codes and compliance requirements; and of participatory work practices. - Ability to develop a wide base of close customer relationships; to build, plan and work within budgeted resources; to estimate work and work within a changing work setting. - Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations; to manage work and provide guidance to employees; to make presentations and prepare report. - Ability to manage and prioritize a large and complex work load with short time frames; to make decisions with limited information and a strong experience base. - Ability to resolve problems and communicate outcomes; to interpret plans; to interact with various levels of personnel. - Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to use technology; and to build teams and involve stakeholders. - Must have strong organizational and planning skills, and good verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to analyze and solve procedural or workflow issues. - Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet scheduled timelines. - Ability to make quick decisions with limited information and time. - Ability to follow-up, organize, and communicate information to leadership. - Ability to comprehend work process and make improvements.
Preferred Qualifications - An SC-licensed Architect with significant experience in building design and construction, an SC-licensed Professional Engineer with significant experience in building design and construction, an International Code Council (ICC) Certified Building Official (CBO); or an International Code Council (ICC) Master Code Professional (MCP).
