Role Summary

Leads modernization of a legacy fourth-generation language application into a Java and React stack, using AI-assisted engineering to accelerate code comprehension, translation, and test generation. Serves as technical authority for migration patterns and sets standards for responsible, verifiable use of AI tooling across the development team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead decomposition and reverse-engineering of legacy Delphi modules, using AI-assisted code analysis to recover undocumented business rules and data flows.

• Architect and build target-state services in Java (Spring Boot) and front-end components in React, preserving functional parity with the legacy system.

• Define and enforce the team's AI-assisted development standards, including prompt patterns, human review gates, licensing and provenance checks, and prohibited uses.

• Build automated equivalence and regression harnesses, using AI-generated test scaffolding validated against legacy behavior.

• Integrate AI coding assistants into the CI/CD pipeline with secrets hygiene and data-handling controls appropriate to sensitive case data.

• Review all AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability before merge; no AI output reaches production unreviewed.

Mentor mid-level developers on both the target stack and disciplined AI-assisted engineering practice

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Educatio n:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. Two (2) years of specialized experience may substitute for one (1) year of the academic requirement.

Minimum Experienc e:Five (5) to eight (8) years of full-stack application development experience, including at least two (2) years of experience in legacy modernization or platform migration, along with demonstrated production use of AI-assisted development tools.

Certifications: One required certification and one certification obtainable after hire. Preferred certifications include Oracle Certified Professional Java SE, Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate, AWS Certified Developer – Associate, AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate, or GitHub Copilot or equivalent AI-assisted development credentials.

Required Skills: Java and Spring Boot, React and TypeScript, RESTful API design, relational data modeling, legacy code analysis, AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Amazon Q Developer, prompt engineering for code translation and test generation, secure coding, and DevSecOps practices.

Preferred Skills :Experience with Delphi, Pascal, or comparable 4GL technologies; retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) over legacy codebases and documentation; large language model evaluation and output validation; strangler-fig and parallel-run migration patterns; and federal-sector experience.

Technical Environment: Java 17+ with Spring Boot, React 18 with TypeScript, REST and GraphQL APIs, PostgreSQL, SQL Server or Oracle databases, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or Azure, GitHub Copilot or Amazon Q Developer, LangChain, retrieval-augmented generation, vector stores such as pgvector and OpenSearch, CI/CD tools including Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps, testing frameworks such as JUnit, Jest and Playwright, SonarQube, and legacy Delphi and Pascal source analysis tools.
