Position Description

TheDepartment of Engineering Technology (https://www.txst.edu/technology.html) at Texas State University is seeking applicants to fill a non-tenure track position at the rank of Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor in our growing Construction Science and Management ( CSM ) and Concrete Industry Management ( CIM ) programs, beginning in Fall 2026. These undergraduate programs are accredited by the American Council for Construction Education ( ACCE ) and the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Technology ( ATMAE ), respectively, and currently serve about 1000 students. The department is also home to MS and PhD programs in construction management with in-person and online options. While candidates with expertise in all areas of construction management will be considered, preference will be given to those in the areas of heavy civil, highway and/or industrial construction.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach relevant undergraduate courses for students preparing for a career in the construction industry or related careers; work with student organizations and/or mentor student competition teams; develop and maintain relationships with construction industry companies; participate in relevant industry associations; and participate in service activities in support of the university, the department, and the profession.

Workload for NTL faculty includes teaching 12 credits each semester in the area of expertise and based on department needs, and fulfilling service and advising obligations each semester.

The preferred start date for this position is about 8/15/2027 to allow for a successful applicant to begin teaching in the fall semester 2027.

Required Qualifications

For all ranks:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Concrete Industry Management, or a related field.

  • Excellent oral and written English language skills.

For Faculty of Practice, all ranks:

  • At least five years of experience in the construction industry including heavy highway, heavy civil, or industrial construction; project management and coordination, jobsite supervision/management, subcontracting, or other applicable construction industry related experience.

  • Current and contemporary competence in professional practice or management.

  • Scholarship through professional presentations, publications, or similar contributions.

For the rank of Associate Professor of Practice:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction industry.

  • Demonstrated leadership in relevant professional organizations.

For the rank of Professor of Practice:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the construction industry.

  • Documented recognition by peers for professional contributions to the field (e.g. awards).

For Faculty of Instruction, all ranks:

  • Current and contemporary competence in their teaching content area.

  • Potential for continued professional growth in teaching and instructional activities.

For the rank of Associate Professor of Instruction:

  • At least five years of full-time effective teaching and learning contributions, including advances in curriculum, pedagogy, course delivery, or similar innovation.

  • Potential for increased leadership in teaching and instructional activities (e.g., course coordination, teaching innovation, professional outreach, scholarly engagement).

For the rank of Professor of Instruction:

  • The requirements listed for Associate Professor of Instruction.

  • At least 10 years of full-time effective and sustained teaching and learning contributions, including advances in curriculum, pedagogy, course delivery, or similar innovation.

  • Documented recognition for leadership and contributions in teaching and instructional activities (e.g., awards, accreditation reviews, curriculum innovation, program coordination, scholarly contributions).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Concrete Industry Management, or related field.

  • Higher education teaching experience as an instructor or guest lecturer.

  • University level teaching experience in construction management or related programs.

  • Construction and/or concrete industry certifications or professional licensure (i.e. American Institute of Constructors ( AIC ) Associate Constructor (AC), or Certified Professional Constructor ( CPC ), Construction Management Association of America ( CMAA ) Certified Construction Manager ( CCM ), Project Management Institute Construction Professional ( PMI -CP), professional engineer (PE), registered architect, or other certifications related to the construction profession such as LEED -AP and OSHA Authorized Trainer.
