Location: Cape Canaveral Space Force Base, Florida
Salary Range: $60,000–$65,000 annually
Work Schedule: Full-time, On-site
Position Summary
The Air Quality Compliance Specialist I supports environmental compliance activities at Cape Canaveral Space Force Base and other Air Force and Space Force installations throughout Central Florida. Working under the guidance of experienced environmental professionals and the Air Force Program Manager, this position assists with air permitting, emissions tracking, regulatory reporting, facility inspections, and maintaining compliance documentation in accordance with federal and Florida air quality regulations.
This is an entry-level opportunity for an individual interested in developing a career in environmental compliance. The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of environmental regulations, strong analytical and organizational skills, and an interest in applying their education to real-world environmental programs. On-the-job training and mentorship will be provided to develop technical knowledge and experience in air quality compliance.
Key Responsibilities

Assist with preparing and maintaining air permit applications, renewals, modifications, and supporting technical documentation.

Support routine environmental inspections of facility operations, emission sources, air pollution control equipment, and recordkeeping practices.

Assist with collecting, reviewing, and organizing emissions data, including fuel usage, production records, and equipment operating information.

Support the preparation of regulatory reports, emissions inventories, compliance certifications, and other required documentation.

Help track facility compliance with applicable federal, Florida, and installation-specific air quality regulations and permit conditions.

Assist with emissions calculations using established emission factors, operational data, and other approved methodologies.

Maintain accurate and organized air quality compliance records, permit files, inspection reports, and regulatory correspondence.

Support the identification and documentation of potential compliance issues and assist with tracking corrective actions.

Assist with maintaining compliance calendars, inspection checklists, standard operating procedures, and environmental management documentation.

Participate in facility inspections, regulatory reviews, and meetings with installation personnel and environmental program staff.

Research applicable environmental regulations and assist with identifying changes that may affect facility operations or compliance requirements.

Communicate with facility personnel, environmental staff, and other team members to gather information and support compliance activities.

Perform other environmental compliance duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Atmospheric Science, or a related technical field.

Zero to one year of relevant professional experience in environmental compliance, air quality, environmental consulting, or a related field. Relevant internships, academic projects, or laboratory experience will be considered.

Foundational knowledge of environmental regulations and an interest in developing expertise in federal and Florida air quality requirements.

Basic understanding of data collection, analysis, technical documentation, and recordkeeping.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.

Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Ability to obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC), subject to required background screening and a pre-employment drug test.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Internship, coursework, or project experience involving air quality, environmental permitting, emissions calculations, or regulatory compliance.

Familiarity with the Clean Air Act, EPA regulations, Florida Department of Environmental Protection requirements, or environmental compliance programs.

Exposure to environmental inspections, emissions inventories, environmental management systems, or regulatory reporting.
-
Experience working with spreadsheets, environmental databases, or other data-management tools.
-
Familiarity with military installations or federal environmental programs.

Exposure to Air Force Air Program Information Management System (APIMS) or Environmental Safety and Occupational Health Management Information System (EESOH-MIS).
Work Environment
This is a full-time, on-site position at Cape Canaveral Space Force Base, with occasional travel to other installations and properties throughout Central Florida. The role includes both office and field responsibilities, including participation in facility inspections and environmental data collection. Employees may encounter industrial equipment, outdoor environments, elevated noise levels, and varying weather conditions. The use of personal protective equipment may be required during field activities. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be necessary to support inspections or operational requirements.
