Why This Job Is a Big Deal!

The Senior Manager, Finance and Business Performance is the financial business partner to the Airport Director and the IAH leadership team. This role turns financial and operational data into decisions and actions that improve revenue, labor productivity, food cost, inventory management, and overall profitability.

This is not a reporting role. You will own the integrity of the airport’s financial results, budget, and forecast, but your real impact will come from helping operators make better decisions every day. You will ask tough questions, challenge assumptions, and use analytics, technology, and AI-enabled tools to find opportunities others miss, then partner with operators to capture them.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first year, success in this role means:

  • Airport leaders see you as a trusted advisor and seek your input before making key operating decisions.

  • Monthly P&L reviews focus on performance drivers and action plans, not just variance explanations.

  • Labor productivity, food cost, and inventory results show measurable improvement against budget and prior year.

  • Budgets and forecasts are accurate, delivered on time, and owned by the operators who run the business.

  • Manual reporting has been reduced or automated, freeing time for analysis and partnership.

Responsibilities

Business Partnership & Performance Improvement

  • Serve as the primary financial business partner to the Airport Director and airport leadership team, providing insights and recommendations that drive revenue growth, labor productivity, and margin improvement.

  • Proactively analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and inefficiencies, and lead root-cause analysis of key business issues.

  • Develop actionable recommendations, partner with operators to implement them, and track results through to measurable impact.

  • Partner with operations to optimize labor scheduling and productivity, food and beverage cost, inventory management, and waste reduction.

  • Lead monthly P&L reviews with unit and airport leaders, keeping the discussion focused on drivers and next steps.

Financial Planning, Reporting & Controls

  • Own the airport’s annual budget and monthly forecasts in partnership with airport leadership and corporate FP&A.

  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including review of month-end results, accruals, and variance analysis.

  • Maintain strong internal controls over cash handling, inventory, payroll, and purchasing, and support internal and external audits.

  • Support airport authority reporting requirements, including sales and concession fee reporting, in partnership with corporate finance.

  • Evaluate the financial impact of new concepts, capital projects, pricing changes, and operational initiatives.

Analytics, Technology & Continuous Improvement

  • Build dashboards and performance metrics that give managers clear, timely information to run their business.

  • Use business intelligence, automation, and AI-enabled tools to streamline reporting, improve forecast accuracy, and reduce manual work.

  • Challenge existing processes, identify best practices inside and outside the organization, and lead their adoption.

Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop the airport finance team, building analytical capability and a culture of continuous improvement.

Candidate Profile We Are Seeking

We are looking for a “builder” rather than a “maintainer.” The ideal candidate is driven, analytical, technology-forward, and naturally inquisitive. They enjoy uncovering insights in the numbers, solving complex business problems, embracing innovative technologies such as AI and automation, and partnering with operators to improve performance. They are not satisfied with explaining what happened; they are driven to influence what happens next.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of progressive finance experience, including partnering directly with operations, in hospitality, food & beverage, retail, airport concessions, multi-unit operations, or a similarly fast-paced operating environment.

  • Proven track record of influencing business decisions through financial analysis and driving measurable results, such as cost savings, margin improvement, revenue growth, or process improvement.

  • Strong business acumen with hands-on experience in budgeting, forecasting, P&L management, labor productivity, inventory controls, and financial performance metrics.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to uncover root causes and translate data into clear, actionable recommendations.

  • Executive presence and the confidence to engage, influence, and constructively challenge leaders at all levels of the organization.

  • Experience leading and developing teams in a collaborative, high-performance environment.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, financial systems, and reporting tools.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security badging, which requires a background check.

  • Ability to travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or CPA.

  • Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), automation platforms, and AI-enabled tools.

  • Experience in multi-unit restaurants, retail, or airport concession operations.
