Full job description

Description

How customers shop is changing. Their expectations of price are changing with it.

From everyday purchases to groceries delivered at speed, new shopping experiences raise new questions about what customers value and how they judge a price. Earning their trust requires new approaches to pricing, grounded in evidence about customer behavior and built to work at Amazon’s scale.

Amazon’s Retail Pricing team builds the systems that price products sold by Amazon worldwide. How should prices across different pack sizes reward customers who buy more? How do we determine whether a pricing change earns customers’ repeat business? As a Principal Product Manager, you will collaborate with scientists and engineers on the next generation of pricing models and strategies to address questions like these, then lead the product work to put them into use.

AI is another part of this work, from understanding differences between products customers compare to turning proposed pricing strategies into logic that can be tested before it reaches customers. Through hands-on prototyping with engineering and science partners, you will help develop these capabilities and share what works with other product leaders.

Key job responsibilities

  • Set the strategy and roadmap for your pricing portfolio, aligning business and technical leaders on customer outcomes, investment priorities, and trade-offs between business-specific needs and shared systems.

  • Partner with scientists on the next generation of pricing and customer-value models, combining customer and business context with scientific insight to develop and apply new approaches.

  • Build and evaluate AI prototypes connected to data and tools, testing their value against existing scientific methods or deterministic software. Use that work to raise other product leaders’ AI fluency through reusable examples and hands-on coaching.

  • Lead product delivery and adoption, building on shared pricing capabilities. Define evaluation criteria, permitted actions, and responses to missing or conflicting evidence with engineering and science partners.

A day in the life

A morning discussion with scientists might focus on how well a new model predicts customers’ responses to price changes. Together, you examine where its predictions match observed purchasing behavior and where they fall short, drawing on context from retail partners to connect those gaps to the pricing decisions the model needs to support.

Later, you might work with engineers on a prototype that turns a proposed pricing strategy into testable logic. Sharing what you learn with other product leaders helps them build and evaluate their own approaches.

About the team

Retail Pricing’s mission is to earn long-term customer trust through competitive prices. Our product work ranges from measuring long-term customer value and improving pricing optimization to developing pricing for Grocery and faster delivery experiences.

These businesses share pricing systems, but customers do not necessarily judge value the same way in every shopping experience. Product and engineering teams work with scientists and retail partners to understand where a common approach works and where differences in customer behavior call for different models or pricing strategies.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • Experience technical product management

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition

  • Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with Engineers on product enhancements

  • Experience in project management methodologies, business analysis, or process improvement
