Full job description

About Govra Govra is building intelligence infrastructure for governments, starting with tax. We're replacing the fragmented, manual processes at the heart of state agencies with intelligent systems that help teams investigate cases, make decisions, and operate at a scale that wasn't previously possible. Our deployments are projected to help states recover hundreds of millions of dollars in additional revenue. We're an early-stage company backed by General Catalyst, recently named to Forbes' inaugural Agentic 20 alongside Instinct, OpenAI, and Meta. We’re a small, ambitious team helping governments build the capacity to deliver on their responsibilities and better serve their citizens.

About the role As a Deployment Strategist, you’ll lead Govra’s deployments with state agencies from discovery through measurable impact. The role spans product management, applied AI, and customer deployments, with ownership from identifying the right problems through launch and adoption. Working directly with agency leaders and frontline experts, you’ll get deep into how their operations actually work, untangling complex processes, understanding the underlying data, and designing and building solutions that make it into production. One day you might be mapping complex regulatory logic, the next prototyping an AI workflow, troubleshooting an agent’s reasoning, or working with engineering to turn a deployment insight into a core product capability. You’ll be accountable for making sure each solution works, gets used, and delivers meaningful results.

What you'll do

  • Lead state deployments end to end: Own engagements from discovery and scoping through solution design, implementation, launch, adoption, and measurable outcomes. Drive decisions, navigate obstacles, and take responsibility for results.
  • Solve complex operational problems: Work alongside agency leaders and frontline experts to understand their processes, data, rules, and decision-making. Translate messy requirements into clear decision logic, structured workflows, and actionable solutions.
  • Build and iterate: Work hands-on with Govra's platform to configure workflows, prototype solutions, design tests and evaluations, and troubleshoot issues independently and alongside engineering.
  • Drive technical execution: Get deep into data requirements, integrations, system dependencies, and edge cases. Coordinate technical implementation, quality assurance, and user testing to ensure solutions are accurate, reliable, and ready for production.
  • Shape the product: Serve as a critical link between agency operations and our engineering team, translating frontline challenges and deployment insights into new product capabilities and improvements.
  • Own customer outcomes: Build trusted relationships with agency leaders and frontline users, drive adoption, and ensure deployments deliver meaningful operational improvements. Establish success metrics, measure results, and continuously improve the solution based on real-world feedback.
  • Codify and scale what works: Turn each engagement into reusable AI skills, configurations, evaluations, tooling, and playbooks that make future deployments faster and more reliable. Help build and evolve the configuration platform that allows Govra to scale across states.

What We're Looking For

  • 4+ years of experience building and delivering complex products or solutions, whether in product management, forward deployment, technical implementation, or similar roles. A demonstrated track record of taking ambiguous, high-stakes problems through to working solutions.
  • Exceptional structured problem-solving: Ability to break down complicated, unstructured problems into clear frameworks, decision logic, technical requirements, and executable workflows. You're rigorous, analytical, and comfortable navigating ambiguity.
  • Strong product judgment: You understand user needs, can design intuitive and effective solutions, and know how to balance customer requirements, technical constraints, and speed of execution.
  • Hands-on building and execution: You prototype, configure, test, and iterate yourself. You move quickly, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and learn whatever tools are needed to get things working.
  • Applied AI fluency: You understand the capabilities and limitations of LLMs and agents and how to design, evaluate, and improve AI-powered workflows. Deep ML engineering experience isn’t required.
  • Customer leadership and ownership: You earn trust from frontline experts to senior executives, communicate complex ideas clearly, and independently lead engagements through adoption and measurable results.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Python, APIs, data integrations, or enterprise data systems.
  • Experience building, configuring, or evaluating LLM-powered workflows and AI agents.
  • Experience deploying enterprise software in complex or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with government operations, tax administration, or other rules-intensive domains.

What we offer You'll join at a pivotal stage of our growth. As we rapidly expand across states, you'll help shape the product, establish our deployment function, and define how Govra scales. You'll have significant autonomy, meaningful equity, competitive compensation, and comprehensive benefits—all within a small team where your work has outsized impact. Based in San Francisco (hybrid), with flexibility for exceptional remote candidates. Expect regular travel to state agencies.
