Transform the everyday with us!

The Business Development Manager (Software & Digital Services) is Smart Infrastructure Buildings' primary industry developer supporting software and digital services. The role identifies, activates, and advances digital opportunities across assigned markets and accelerates proactive growth through net-new, area-sourced pipeline and installed-base activation.

Business Development Managers provide opportunity support and work in close coordination with National Business Managers who build seller readiness. They may be deployed by industry or market segment and geography. Success is measured by the quality and velocity of pipeline created, while assigned sellers retain ownership of closing transactions.

As a Business Development Manager (Software & Digital Services), you will:

  • Industry Development and Market Penetration

  • Develop deep expertise in assigned industry segments and the digital needs of customers within those markets.

  • Identify and map installed-base accounts with inactivated digital opportunities.

  • Build relationships with economic buyers, facilities leaders, sustainability officers, and other key stakeholders to drive demand with Area teams.

  • Represent the SI Buildings digital portfolio with credibility and authority at the industry level.

  • Pipeline Generation and Opportunity Creation

  • Own area-sourced pipeline creation as the primary measure of success, with pipeline coverage expectations aligned to assigned digital targets.

  • Identify, qualify, and advance net-new digital opportunities across assigned markets and accounts.

  • Execute growth activation campaigns targeting installed-base segments and underserved markets.

  • Maintain accurate, current opportunity data in CRM and consistently demonstrate strong pipeline hygiene.

  • Growth Acceleration and Seller Handoff

  • Engage directly in early-stage opportunity development to create momentum, then transition execution to the assigned seller.

  • Establish clear handoff protocols with Sales Managers to support opportunity continuity after transition.

  • Provide market intelligence and deal context that helps sellers advance opportunities to close.

  • Reinforce digital rules of engagement in every seller interaction as a peer holding the standard.

  • Digital Growth Behaviors and Collaboration

  • Model and reinforce sustainable digital growth behaviors, including ownership, urgency, and customer-first engagement.

  • Participate in digital business reviews with Area leadership, National Business Managers, and the Head of Software & Digital Services Growth.

  • Contribute market and competitive intelligence that informs enterprise growth strategy.

  • Share best practices across the Business Development Manager team to raise collective performance.

  • Role Boundaries

  • Partner with National Business Managers on seller readiness, onboarding, and digital coaching rather than owning those activities.

  • Create and advance opportunities and coach through close while preserving seller ownership of the transaction.

  • Avoid becoming a substitute for seller digital ownership.

  • Coordinate technical product demonstrations with technical specialists or NBMs.

You will make an impact with these qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, technology, marketing, or a related field, or a comparable combination of education and relevant experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in business development, industry sales, digital sales, or a comparable customer-facing role in a complex environment.

  • Must be able to demonstrate:

  • CRM discipline and a data-driven approach to market and pipeline management.

  • Ability to translate customer needs into credible digital opportunity and value positioning.

  • Ability to proactively create and advance pipeline.

  • Relationship-building and influencing skills in a matrixed organization

  • Communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage and motivate sales teams

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time within the assigned market and nationally as business needs require.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

  • Will need to reside in the central territory (or willing to relocate): ND, SD, NE, KS, OK, TX, MN, IA, MO, AR, WI, MI, IN, and IL

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry knowledge in commercial real estate, healthcare, education, government, industrial, or data centers.

  • Experience with digital services, software-enabled solutions, IoT, analytics, or connected-building offerings.

  • Experience on a sales team within SI Buildings, Siemens, or the Buildings market.

  • Experience activating installed-base opportunity and coordinating clean opportunity handoffs to field sellers.
