Standard Job Description
The Advanced Programs and Exploitation (APEX) team within Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a software engineer with experience working at the intersection of software, embedded processing, and FPGA-based systems to support space-based mission processing of OPIR data.
In this position, you will develop and integrate software associated with FPGA-based and heterogeneous processing architectures. You will work closely with FPGA, hardware, and software engineers to implement and integrate mission processing functionality across processors and programmable logic.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:

Developing C++ and Python software for embedded processing systems
-
Integrating software with FPGA-based processing architectures
-
Supporting development and integration of applications using AMD/Xilinx Vitis and Vivado toolchains
-
Working with High-Level Synthesis (HLS) and software-to-hardware interfaces
-
Developing and debugging software that interacts with programmable logic and embedded processors
-
Analyzing system performance and optimizing data movement between processors, memory, and FPGA fabric
-
Supporting hardware/software integration and troubleshooting
-
Developing interfaces between mission applications and FPGA-based processing functions
-
Participating in system architecture, design, code reviews, integration, and test

Working with hardware engineers to diagnose issues spanning software, FPGA, and hardware boundaries

Documenting software, interfaces, designs, and test results
This position is located in our offices in beautiful Boulder, Colorado.
Basic Qualifications
-
Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a related technical field
-
Development experience in C++ or another compiled programming language
-
Experience developing software for embedded or hardware-constrained systems

Ability to obtain a Secret government clearance
Desired Skills

AMD/Xilinx Vitis & Vivado (including Vitis HLS or other HLS tools)

FPGA architecture, programmable logic, and AXI‑style HW/SW interfaces

Hardware/software co‑design and FPGA acceleration/data‑processing pipelines

Embedded processors, heterogeneous computing, and embedded Linux
-
Low‑level programming, device drivers, and C/C++ on embedded targets
-
Digital signal processing, image processing, and mission‑critical aerospace/defense payloads

Active security clearance

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $110300.00 - $204900.00

Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.

For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
