Plans, coordinates, publicizes, and implements special events, including social events, recognition celebrations, conferences, and meetings. Facilitates production of events by coordinating with performing groups, arranging publicity, and approving expenditures.

About Outreach and Engagement

The Office of Outreach and Engagement was established to provide innovative, collaborative and strategic leadership and support for the university’s strategic priority of engagement with communities across the region, state, nation and the world. Engagement includes members of the university and the community working together to address a community need or pressing societal issue. The units included in the Office of Outreach and Engagement include the Ranching Heritage Center, the Museum of Texas Tech, the TTU Press, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and TTU Center at Junction.

The Junction community was funded in 1876 and has approximately 3,000 residents. Junction is located approximately 115 miles northwest of San Antonio and 140 miles west of Austin in central Kimble County. It lies near the western end of the Texas Hill Country. The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winders. Junction is home to several parks, including the South Llano River State Park. The city has several swimming pools, golf and tennis courses, and is home to the Kimble County Historical Museum and the O.C. Fischer Museum housed in the Kimble County Library.

Major/Essential Functions:

The Office of the Provost in Outreach and Engagement seeks applicants for an Education and Event Coordinator for a 12-month position to begin December 1, 2026. The duty point for this position is flexible and can be situated at Texas Tech University in Lubbock or Junction with expectations for trips to Junction for event planning and execution if the duty point is Lubbock. This position requires 70% time allocated to recruiting and selling for the conference center venue and 30% time for the production and execution of conference center events as well as scheduling events for the Outdoor Learning Lab.

Applicants should have experience planning and coordinating events including the following:

  1. Schedule, organize, and coordinate events and activities for the newly established conference center at Junction (including but not limited to working with vendors, hotels, food service and Junction cafeteria, conference center operational compliance) as well as scheduling programmatic events for the outdoor learning lab;

  2. Develop, coordinate and disseminate promotional materials for conference center events;

  3. Provide oversight and compliance of the conference center operations; and

  4. Demonstrated experience in promoting, marketing, selling and recruiting business for conference center venue events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiarity with educational programs and outdoor learning experiences.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree plus one year related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience equal to five years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in a related field.

  2. Hospitality background and experience in sales.

  3. At least two years of experience working with conference center events.

  4. At least two years of experience in promoting, marketing and coordinating events.

  5. Demonstrated experience working with the communities and industry.

  6. Contracting with third party vendors.

  7. At least two years of experience in conference/convention center sales.
