Veterinary Assistant, Specialty | Starting at $18/hr

Location: Plainview, NY

Schedule: Full-Time | Multiple shift options available (see below)

Compensation: Starting at $18/hour + $4/hour Overnight Shift Differential

Join Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS) as a full-time Veterinary Assistant in Plainview, NY. Work alongside experienced veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians while supporting emergency and specialty patient care in a fast-paced animal hospital environment.

This is a great opportunity for a Veterinary Assistant who enjoys hands-on patient care, learning new skills, and being part of a team dedicated to helping pets and their families during critical moments.

Compensation

  • Starting at $18+/hour, based on experience and skillset

  • Overnight Differential (11:00p – 7:00a): Base + $4/hr

Responsibilities

  • As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting patient care, hospital operations, and the veterinary team. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide comfort, nursing support, and daily care for hospitalized patients

  • Assist with patient restraint, feeding, walking, and general husbandry

  • Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and procedures

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe hospital environment

  • Assist with accurate medical record documentation

  • Follow hospital cleaning and infection control protocols

  • Adapt to the needs of various departments and support patient care where needed

  • Deliver compassionate service to clients and their pets during emergency situations

Qualifications

  • Previous veterinary, animal care, kennel, or healthcare experience preferred, but not required

  • Genuine passion for working with animals and supporting their care

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced emergency hospital environment

  • Professional communication skills with clients and team members

  • Reliable, adaptable, and team-oriented mindset

  • Ability to lift 40+ pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods

  • Willingness to learn and participate in hands-on training opportunities

  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
