Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking qualified applicants for a full time, clinical or tenure track faculty appointment in Anesthesiology in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) and the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). The LVMC is a state-of-the-art teaching hospital providing specialized care for companion and production animals throughout Iowa and the surrounding states. The candidates will join an anesthesia team comprised of 3 faculty Anesthesiologists that are complemented by 9 veterinary anesthesia technicians and 1 anesthesia residents. The department is seeking candidates to provide excellent patient care, teach didactic and laboratory courses in veterinary anesthesiology, provide clinical training for technicians and house officers, and enhance the national prominence of the LVMC’s Anesthesiology section. The successful candidate will help develop creative programs in scholarship, didactic and laboratory teaching in anesthesiology, academic service, and outreach activities. Clinical duties will include weekends, holidays, and after-hours service that are shared amongst the anesthesia faculty. Second and third year ACVAA/ECVAA residents are encouraged to apply.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • DVM or equivalent degree.

  • Successful completion of an American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) residency program before first day of employment.

  • State of Iowa Veterinary License on or before first day of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (DACVAA) .

  • Experience working with veterinary technicians and/or veterinary students in a clinical teaching setting.

  • Experience running a clinical anesthesia service with a moderate to high caseload.
