Full time

The Agile Coach supports the adoption, maturity, and sustainability of Agile ways of working across Property & Casualty insurance delivery teams. This role partners with business, technology, and operational leaders to improve delivery predictability, value flow, and outcomes across core insurance value streams, while ensuring alignment with regulatory, risk, and governance requirements.

The Agile Coach acts as a change agent, guiding teams and leaders beyond mechanical Agile adoption toward a sustainable Agile mindset that balances speed, quality, and compliance in a regulated insurance environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Team & Role Coaching

  • Help teams and delivery leaders adopt an agile mindset through coaching

  • Coach multiple cross-functional delivery teams across key P&C domains (Policy, Billing, Claims, Data, Digital).

  • Mentor Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and delivery leaders to improve team maturity, flow, and outcomes.

  • Reinforce clear role boundaries while promoting shared accountability.

  • Observe, facilitate, and continuously improve Agile ceremonies with a focus on outcomes over process compliance.

Insurance Value Streams & Delivery Flow

  • Coach teams organize work around P&C value streams rather than projects.

  • Improve flow across intake, prioritization, delivery, and release.

  • Align delivery metrics to meaningful insurance outcomes (cycle time, predictability, quality, customer experience).

  • Support dependency management across policy, billing, claims, data, and vendor platforms.

Organizational & Leadership Agility

  • Partner with delivery leaders to model Agile leadership behaviors.

  • Coach leaders on decision-making and flow-based planning.

  • Support organizational change initiatives by reinforcing adoption and sustainability of Agile practices.

  • Balance speed to market with governance, compliance, and risk needs.

Agile Practices, Enablement & Community

  • Support Scrum, Kanban, and hybrid delivery models.

  • Support facilitates PI planning, quarterly planning, retrospectives, and workshops.

  • Design and deliver Agile training, workshops, and role-based learning sessions for teams and key Agile roles and leaders.

  • Develop reusable training materials, coaching guides, and enablement content to support consistent Agile adoption across teams, roles, and value streams.

  • Support onboarding of new teams

  • Support the development and maturity of NJM’s Lean-Agile Center of Excellence.

  • Help define Agile coaching standards, playbooks, maturity models, and enablement plans.

  • Partner with leaders to scale consistent Agile practices across teams and value streams.

  • Facilitate Agile communities of practice and knowledge-sharing forums.

  • Track adoption progress and recommend continuous improvement actions based on team maturity, delivery metrics, and stakeholder feedback.

Required Qualifications:

  • SAFe Practice Consultant (SPC) certification required.

  • Bachelor’s degree and equivalent practical experience

  • 7+ years working in Agile or Lean delivery teams as a contributor

  • 3+ years as an Agile Coach, Scrum Master, or similar role

  • Experience supporting complex enterprise delivery teams

  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and communication skills

  • Ability to provide practical coaching experience in a real-world technology delivery environment with support from theoretical agile principles

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Property & Casualty insurance or financial services

  • Exposure to core insurance platforms (Guidewire, Duck Creek, or equivalent)

  • Experience partnering with PMO or any governance groups.

  • Agile certifications (ICP-ACC, ICP-ATF, CSM, CSP)

  • Experience with the following tools: Agile Place, Planview and JIRA

  • Prior hands-on software delivery or engineering experience is strongly preferred

Key Competencies:

  • Servant leadership and coaching mindset

  • Systems thinking

  • Change leadership

  • Collaboration across business and technology

  • Ability to balance agility with governance

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.
