Sr. Full Stack Java Developer (Remote)

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Full Stack Java Developer to support a large-scale enterprise application modernization initiative. This individual will join an Agile development team responsible for assessing an existing legacy application and helping transition its capabilities into a modern, cloud-based architecture. The position will be heavily focused on backend development using Java and Spring Boot, with additional responsibilities involving Python, AWS-based data integration, relational databases, and React. The ideal candidate will have previously supported an application migration or modernization effort and will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where discovery and development may occur simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise application capabilities using Java, Spring Boot, Python, React, and AWS technologies
• Build and support Java-based services, RESTful APIs, and microservices
• Develop and maintain data integration and transformation processes using AWS Glue
• Evaluate existing application components, business logic, integrations, and technical dependencies
• Help transition legacy application capabilities into modern, scalable, cloud-based solutions
• Support data migration, ETL, and database integration activities
• Work with relational databases, including MySQL-based environments
• Develop reusable React components and support frontend capabilities as needed
• Create unit-tested, maintainable, and secure code
• Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, testing, and continuous improvement activities
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, concerns, and opportunities for modernization
• Collaborate with developers, architects, product owners, and other technical and business stakeholders
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives

Compensation: $54hr to $74hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.

Skills and Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience developing enterprise applications
• Advanced backend development experience using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot
• Strong experience designing, developing, and supporting RESTful APIs and Java-based services
• Experience developing within a microservices architecture
• Professional experience using Python for application development, scripting, automation, or data processing
• Hands-on experience with AWS Glue for ETL, data transformation, integration, or migration workloads
• Experience supporting a legacy application modernization, cloud migration, re-platforming, monolith-to-microservices transition, or comparable application transformation
• Experience working with ETL processes, data pipelines, data integration, or data migration
• Experience with relational databases, including strong SQL knowledge
• Experience with MySQL or a comparable relational database
• Full-stack development experience using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
• Experience working with Git-based version control and modern CI/CD practices
• Experience creating unit tests and participating in code reviews
• Experience working within Agile development teams and participating in Agile ceremonies
• Ability to analyze an existing application, understand technical dependencies, and identify risks or areas for modernization
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to audiences with different levels of technical knowledge
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
• Experience with Amazon Aurora using MySQL
• Experience modernizing large, complex, or monolithic Java applications
• Experience with additional AWS services such as:
• Amazon S3
• AWS Lambda
• Amazon RDS
• Amazon EKS
• Amazon API Gateway
• Apache Airflow or comparable workflow-orchestration experience
• Docker and Kubernetes
• Kafka or other event-driven messaging technologies
• Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools
• SonarQube
• GitHub and GitHub Copilot
• Familiarity with AI-assisted or agent-based software development practices
• Section 508 and accessible application development
• Secure coding and Secure Software Development Lifecycle practices
• CMS, Medicare, federal healthcare, or federal government experience
• Experience supporting stakeholders or teams with different levels of Agile maturity
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
