Full job description

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Location: Manheim, PA

Type: Direct Hire

Work Model: Onsite

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop manufacturing engineering, test engineering, and maintenance teams supporting electronic assembly, testing, calibration, mechanical assembly (including damper products), and final assembly value streams.

  • Provide functional leadership and technical direction to process engineers assigned to value streams, ensuring alignment to standardized methods, equipment strategies, and long-term manufacturing objectives.

  • Drive localization, installation, and validation efforts for new HVAC control products, electronic assemblies, mechanical damper assemblies, and related production equipment, ensuring readiness for volume manufacturing.

  • Partner with Product Engineering to support Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, Test, and Service (DFM/DFA/DFT/DFS) for electronic and mechanical products.

  • Own facility, equipment, and reliability strategy, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs, lifecycle planning, spare parts strategy, and infrastructure readiness to support growth.

  • Provide oversight for the creation, accuracy, and maintenance of BOMs, routings, work instructions, and standard work within the ERP/MRP system.

  • Partner with Operations to improve manufacturing efficiency through lean principles, line balancing, takt optimization, yield improvement, ergonomics, and waste reduction.

  • Apply structured problem-solving and root cause analysis to resolve process, equipment, test, quality, and damper performance issues.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on first-pass yield, defect reduction, test coverage, OEE, and capacity scalability.

  • Proactively identify capacity constraints, technical risks, skill gaps, and infrastructure limitations; develop mitigation plans ahead of demand increases.

  • Identify, justify, and implement cost savings related to materials, processes, automation, maintenance practices, and facility operations.

  • Manage external vendors and contractors, including equipment suppliers, automation integrators, calibration services, and facility service providers.

  • Develop and manage departmental operating budgets and capital expenditure plans for automation, test systems, facilities, and capacity expansion.

  • Communicate equipment and facility status, repair progress, spare parts availability, and production impacts to cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Champion safety by enforcing policies, supporting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, electrical safety, and company standards.

  • Demonstrate ownership, initiative, and the ability to prioritize and execute in a fast-growing, high-mix manufacturing environment.

  • Promote continuous learning and technical skill development within the engineering and maintenance teams.

  • Any other similar or associated duties necessary to accomplish job objectives, or as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline required.

  • Advanced degree (Master’s/MBA) in Engineering, Operations, or Technology preferred.

  • Minimum 7+ years of progressive manufacturing engineering experience in electronics and mechanical assembly.

  • 3+ years in a leadership or technical management role, with demonstrated experience managing direct reports.

  • Hands-on experience with SMT assembly, electronic testing, calibration, mechanical sub-assembly, and low-to-mid volume manufacturing environments.

  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, including BOMs, routings, and production master data.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (English) and technical writing ability.

  • Computer proficiency in hardware and software, including financial software programs (Oracle preferred), Excel, and Word.

  • Structured problem-solving skills (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone).

  • Data analysis skills to optimize OEE, yield, and operational efficiency.

  • Capacity and risk planning experience.

  • Use of process and technology data to identify improvement opportunities and support scalability.

  • Ability to follow policies, complete administrative tasks correctly and on time, and support organizational goals and values.

  • Strategic thinking, decision-making, project management, teamwork, and collaboration skills.

  • Advanced mathematics, algebra, and moderate statistics skills.

  • Supervisory responsibilities: Yes.

  • Certifications: None required. Lean Six Sigma, CMRP, or FMP certifications are plus.

  • Work environment includes office, manufacturing, and warehouse areas with exposure to noise, temperature variations, and moving equipment. Must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Regular presence on the production floor required. Occasional travel (10%) domestically and internationally.
