Description

The Texas A&M University College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track or a tenured faculty position in Interactive Media and Creative Technology at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Rank and tenure status will be commensurate with the candidate’s academic and professional experience and qualifications. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2027.

The College and the Technical Arts & Interactive Media (TAIM) Section in the Visualization Program seek an innovative scholar, artist, designer, and educator whose research and creative practice advance the evolving fields of interactive art and design, computational media, and interdisciplinary creative technologies. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work investigates how emerging technologies can expand creative expression, human experience, and design innovation through artistic inquiry, experimentation, critical engagement, and technological exploration.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant interdisciplinary environment that bridges art, design, computation, science, and technology. They will be expected to establish and sustain a nationally and internationally recognized program of scholarly and/or creative research and contribute to teaching and mentorship across the Visualization Program’s undergraduate, master’s, and PhD programs.

We value collaborative and forward-looking research and creative practices that address contemporary opportunities and challenges through innovative approaches to interactive systems, creative computation, emerging media, and human-centered technologies. Candidates should demonstrate the potential for, or an established record of, scholarly and creative excellence and the capacity to develop a significant and visible research and/or creative practice appropriate to their career stage. We especially welcome work that integrates artistic practice, design research, computational approaches, and technological innovation through interdisciplinary methods.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary research, creative practice, teaching, and mentorship and will contribute to the Technical Arts & Interactive Media Section’s mission of integrating artistic creativity, scientific inquiry, design thinking, and technological innovation. Through research, creative activity, teaching, and collaboration, the successful candidate will help shape new directions for visual and interactive experiences and contribute to the continued development of the Visualization Program’s undergraduate and graduate educational and research initiatives.

About the College

The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a new college within the Texas A&M University System, with a diverse and dynamic mission, 109 faculty, over 15 staff members, and projected exponential growth over the next five years. The college was formed from three departments and programs across the university: the Department of Visualization, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Dance Science Program. The mission of PVFA places a heavy emphasis on faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work in both scholarly and creative research. Texas A&M University leadership has charged the college with developing innovative research and creative works, public performances, and degree offerings at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels that build on our strength in merging art and science, alongside the traditional fields of music, dance, art, and theater. Faculty also have access to a virtual production stage through the Virtual Production Institute. Teaching Expectations

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to their expertise in interactive media, creative technology, and related interdisciplinary fields. Responsibilities include developing and teaching courses that engage contemporary and emerging approaches to creative practice, design, computation, and technology; mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; and fostering collaborative learning environments that connect creative inquiry, research, and practice.

Service Expectations

The successful candidate will contribute service appropriate to rank and career stage within the Technical Arts & Interactive Media Section, the Visualization Program, the College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts, Texas A&M University, and the broader professional community.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a PhD or other terminal degree (MFA). Candidates who are ABD (All but dissertation) may be considered for appointment at the Assistant Professor level, provided they demonstrate clear progress toward completion.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should demonstrate a strong record or potential for excellence in scholarly and/or creative research, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration relevant to interactive media, creative technology, or related fields. Candidates for Associate Professor should have a nationally or internationally recognized record of scholarly and/or creative achievement appropriate to rank, with demonstrated leadership in areas such as externally supported research or creative activity, interdisciplinary projects, graduate mentorship, and professional service.
