Assistant or Associate Director, Counseling Practicum Experience

Lynch School of Education and Human Development

The Assistant or Associate Director, Counseling Practicum Experience within the Office of Field Placement and Partnership Outreach provides operational oversight for field-based experiences across the Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and School Adjustment Counseling programs at the Lynch School of Education and Human Development. Reporting to the Director, Counseling Practicum Experience, this position ensures the implementation and continuous improvement of high-quality practicum and internship experiences that meet institutional, accreditation, and licensure standards.

The Assistant or Associate Director oversees student placement systems, community partnership development, accreditation and licensure compliance activities, and field-based assessment processes. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, supervisors, and external partners, the Assistant or Associate Director serves as a key resource on experiential learning, professional preparation, and student success while promoting excellence, consistency, and innovation across counseling field experiences.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage practicum and internship placement processes for counseling students, ensuring high-quality field experiences that support professional development and licensure requirements.

  • Serve as the primary liaison to schools, clinical agencies, healthcare organizations, and community partners, cultivating and maintaining partnerships that expand and strengthen placement opportunities.

  • Oversee systems and processes related to student placement, assessment, supervision, reporting, and documentation, ensuring data integrity and operational effectiveness.

  • Monitor compliance with accreditation, licensure, and professional standards; support accreditation reviews, program assessment activities, and regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Provide consultation, guidance, and professional development to students, faculty, program supervisors, and site supervisors regarding field education policies, procedures, and best practices.

  • Address complex student, site, and compliance-related issues through proactive problem-solving, risk management, and the development of appropriate support and remediation strategies.

  • Analyze field placement and assessment data to inform decision-making, strengthen program quality, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and full-time equivalent hiring ranges:

Assistant Director: $67,350 - $84,200; 1-5 years’ experience

Associate Director: $74,450 - $93,050; 5+ years related professional experience

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling, School Adjustment Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Counselor Education, or a closely related field required.

  • Professional licensure or eligibility for licensure in a discipline aligned with the Lynch School of Education and Human Development counseling programs is preferred.

  • Experience working with licensure, accreditation, compliance processes, and university-level student advising strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, implement, and maintain compliance with state, national, professional, and accreditation standards governing clinical and field-based training programs.

  • Strong analytical, assessment, and problem-solving skills, with experience collecting, managing, and utilizing data to support accreditation, compliance, program evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Experience managing complex systems, processes, and technologies, including learning management systems, placement management platforms, data reporting tools, and other technologies that support field placement operations.

  • Proven ability to exercise sound professional judgment, manage risk, and independently resolve student, site, and compliance-related issues in a dynamic and evolving environment.

  • Excellent organizational, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, provide high-quality service, and build effective collaborative relationships with students, faculty, supervisors, community partners, and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive, equity-minded practices and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel to training sites throughout Greater Boston, Metro West, and surrounding regions to support student advising, site visits, meetings, workshops, and other program needs.
