Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for a top defense and power systems client. This engineer will join a growing team focused on advanced power conversion technologies and support the design and development of highly complex power electronics systems. The ideal candidate will play a key role in translating system requirements into detailed electrical designs, supporting architecture development, performing circuit analysis and simulations, and creating robust documentation packages. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge power conversion products while leading portions of the design effort from concept through implementation. The team is actively growing with a focus on senior-level engineering talent and offers the potential for long-term opportunities and future conversion. What You Will Do:

  • Support development of next-generation power conversion systems and applications
  • Lead design efforts for portions of complex electrical systems
  • Decompose customer and system requirements into detailed design specifications
  • Assist in system architecture and early design planning activities
  • Create and update electrical schematics and circuit board designs
  • Support simulation and validation efforts during design phases
  • Select and specify electrical components, wiring, connectors, sensors, and related hardware
  • Develop wire harness drawings and supporting design documentation
  • Perform engineering calculations to validate design robustness
  • Support design reviews and provide technical feedback to project teams
  • Execute engineering change orders (ECOs) and design modifications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Having design experience, ideally schematic work in AutoCAD Electrical (including selection of individual parts, wires, connectors, sensors, contactors, etc.). o Includes the design, upgrading, documentation, troubleshooting, and general engineering support of power electronics systems.

  • Power conversion/Power electronics

  • Technical skillsets including circuit board design (tool: Altium), knowledge of power converter topologies and devices (IGBTs, MOSFETS, power diodes, etc.), design or understanding of high voltage / high current custom components like capacitors, inductors, and transformers, etc.

  • design, upgrading, documentation, troubleshooting, and general engineering support of power distribution systems.

  • Working with protective relays, creating or modifying generator controls, fault analysis/coordination studies (tool: E-TAP), circuit breaker selection or design modification, design or upgrades to relay/timer/controls logic, and schematic work in AutoCAD Electrical (including selection of individual parts, wires, connectors, sensors, contactors, etc.)
