Full job description
About Interfere Interfere helps teams find broken product experiences, understand what caused them, and fix them before more users are affected. We’re building for people who care deeply about how their software works. Design is central to that: making complex problems easy to understand and giving teams a clear path to solving them.
The Role We’re looking for a founding designer with exceptional UI skills and strong product instincts. You’ll work closely with the founder, design engineer, and engineers to shape what we build and how it works. You’ll own problems from the first conversation with a user through to the shipped experience. That means identifying what’s worth solving, making product decisions, exploring solutions, and working through the details with engineering. There’s a lot to figure out and a lot of room to take ownership. We want someone who brings ideas, asks hard questions, and takes the initiative to make the product better.
What You’ll Do
-
Shape the product. Help decide what we build, why it matters, and how it should work. Question assumptions and make thoughtful tradeoffs around scope and priorities.
-
Design exceptional interfaces. Turn complex workflows into clear, intuitive experiences. Care about the details, from layout and typography to interaction and motion.
-
Talk to users. Build a direct understanding of their work, watch how they use Interfere, and use what you learn to guide decisions.
-
Own the work through shipping. Explore ideas, prototype interactions, and work closely with engineers to get the details right. Keep improving things once they’re live.
-
Find opportunities without being asked. Notice what’s confusing, missing, or worth rethinking, and take responsibility for moving it forward.
Who We’re Looking For
-
At least 3 years of product design experience. You’ve shipped products and can walk us through your contribution, your decisions, and what you learned.
-
Exceptional at UI. You have a strong eye for typography, layout, spacing, color, and interaction, and your work shows it.
-
Strong product judgment. You think beyond individual screens. You can identify the underlying problem, challenge a proposed solution, and help decide what deserves to be built.
-
High agency. You can turn an ambiguous problem into a clear next step. You seek out the context you need, make decisions, and follow through.
-
Hunger and drive. You want to do work you’re proud of, seek honest feedback, and keep pushing yourself. You’ve pursued ideas or taken on responsibility beyond what was expected of you.
-
Curiosity about users. You’re comfortable reaching out, asking questions, and testing your assumptions. You want to understand whether what you’ve designed actually helps.
Nice to Have
-
Experience designing developer tools or other complex software.
-
Technical knowledge or an ability to prototype and build interfaces in code. Helpful, but not required.
-
Familiarity with observability basics, such as logs, traces, metrics, and session replays.
-
Experience working at an early-stage startup or taking a product from zero to one.
How to Apply Send us your portfolio and a short introduction. Pick one or two projects that show your best work and tell us what you owned, which decisions you made, and what shipped. We’d love to see side projects too.
Compensation $150,000–$250,000 USD annually.
