JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director, Emergency Services works in collaboration with and under the direction of the Director, Emergency Services to support the operational, clinical, quality, workforce, and administrative performance of Emergency Services across three hospital Emergency Departments.

The Assistant Director supports implementation and execution of the system-wide Emergency Services strategy, operational standards, clinical expectations, and performance goals established by the Director. The position works closely with Emergency Department Nurse Managers to promote consistent practices, operational effectiveness, patient flow, quality and patient safety, workforce performance, regulatory readiness, and patient experience across all three sites.

The Assistant Director serves as a key operational resource to the Nurse Managers and facilitates coordination and standardization among the three Emergency Departments. The position assists the Director with monitoring performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, implementing system initiatives, and ensuring appropriate follow-through and accountability.

In the absence of the Director, the Assistant Director provides leadership and operational oversight of Emergency Services within the authority delegated by the Director and/or Vice President, Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer.

EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in Massachusetts.

  • Minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience in an acute-care setting with significant Emergency Services and/or Critical Care experience.

  • Minimum of three years of progressive nursing leadership experience preferred at the Nurse Manager or comparable level.

  • Demonstrated experience with Emergency Department operations, staffing, quality and patient safety, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and initiatives across departments and work effectively with nursing, physician, and interdisciplinary leaders.

  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Computer literacy and ability to utilize data and technology to support operational decision-making.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.

  • Previous multi-site or service-line leadership experience.

  • Certification in Emergency Nursing and/or Nursing Leadership.
