The selected applicant will teach three courses per year: two courses will have a weekly three-hour laboratory section in addition to the class sessions; the other course will not have a weekly laboratory section.

The College’s location along the rocky Maine coast provides excellent local outcrops for teaching and research. Bowdoin maintains a High Performance Computer ( HPC ) cluster and access to GIS software. The EOS Department has facilities and instrumentation to support a range of engaged learning and field and laboratory activities, including petrographic microscopes; mineral, rock, and fossil collections; rock saws; and a scanning electron microscope with CL/ EDS / EBSD capabilities (https://www.bowdoin.edu/earth-oceanographic-science/facilities-and-instumentation/index.html).

Bowdoin College offers opportunities for professional development, including robust programming and resources for establishing and enhancing mentoring networks. The College is home to talented students, faculty, and staff and we encourage applications from candidates committed to the inclusive instruction and support of a diverse student population, and those who will enrich and contribute to the College’s multifaceted diversity.

Accessibility during the application and interview stages, as well as once employed, is a priority of the College: https://www.bowdoin.edu/accessibility/index.html.

Bowdoin College accepts only electronic submissions. Please submit: 1) a one-page cover letter; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) a two-page statement that describes your teaching philosophy, inclusive practices, and three courses you would be interested in teaching; these courses may be listed in our current catalog and/or courses that you would like to develop, 4) a two-page research statement that describes your scholarship and how undergraduates may contribute to your research program, and 5) the names and contact information for three references who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation. Letters will be automatically requested from the references of candidates invited for interviews.

Review of applications will begin on January 15, 2027, and continue until the position is filled. The targeted hiring salary range for this appointment based on the position requirements is $74,000-$78,000.
