Generator Field Service Technician

Newington, CT

We have two openings; one role with preferred Navy Submarine experience

Pay: $45.71–$51.44/hour

Key qualifications :

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Electric Power Generation, including troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment (generator, ATS, Switchgear), AC and DC, and diesel engine

  • Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills, breaker testing, paralleling generators, medium/high voltage, transformers, thermal scan (IR Scan) preferred

  • Must be computer proficient to be able to run diagnostic software and prepare service communications

  • Must have strong communication skills and have high self-management

  • Must be willing to work overtime, including: evenings, holidays, and weekends when needed

  • Valid and clean driver’s license required (this position drives a service truck)

Responsibilities:

Successfully provide service of recognized superior value

  • Troubleshoot electrical problems

  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems

  • Efficiently utilize resources to correct problems

  • Document steps taken to correct problems

Maximize the efficient use of service and repair processes to provide fast accurate service and minimize unnecessary expense

  • Plan proper repair procedures for efficiency

  • Efficiently utilize tooling and technical resources

  • Continually improve key processes

  • Effectively communicate status of repair work with supervisor

Effectively communicate with customers

  • Represent the company in a positive, professional manner

  • Communicate customers’ options to correct current problems

  • Advise customers of cost of repair and collect payment as required

Successfully contribute towards building a culture of safety through completion of all safety initiatives and demonstrating safe work habits

  • Complete/attend all safety meetings, computer-based safety training, safety audits and other safety training as assigned

  • Work in a proactive, safe manner in compliance with all safety practices, policies and training

  • Immediately resolve and/or report all safety issues to supervisor

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with all Contamination Control Initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Electric Power Generation, including troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment (generator, ATS, Switchgear), AC and DC, and diesel engine

  • For one of these opportunities Navy Submarine experience is highly preferred, (repair, troubleshooting, etc.)

  • Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills, breaker testing, paralleling generators, medium/high voltage, transformers, thermal scan (IR Scan) preferred

  • Must be computer proficient to be able to run diagnostic software and prepare service communications

  • Must have strong communication skills and have high self-management

  • Must be willing to work overtime, including: evenings, holidays, and weekends when needed

  • Valid and clean driver’s license required (this position drives a service truck)

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing and walking (including on uneven surfaces)

  • Sitting, body rotation, and forward bending (in both sitting and standing positions)

  • Lifting up to 60 lbs. (machine or team lift for items over 50 lbs.)

  • Carrying up to 50 lbs. for short distances

  • Push/pull tasks requiring up to 75 lbs. of force

  • Climbing stairs and ladders (including non-standard access points)

  • Crawling, kneeling (low work), and working in awkward/tight positions

  • Strong grip strength (up to 80 lbs. with both hands; up to 30 lbs. with one hand)

  • Hand coordination and overhead/extended reaching

  • Operating equipment, machinery, foot pedals, and hand tools

  • Outdoor work as required (exposure to weather and varying environments)

  • Wearing up to 20 lbs. of PPE, including flame-resistant clothing, welding helmets/shields, and ANSI-rated protective footwear as required
