Salary Range: USD 149,300 - 110,600

Engineering Technical Writers at MathWorks develop content that helps users solve engineering challenges. We are members of product teams that include engineering, quality, marketing, and user experience staff. We share a common goal: to develop leading scientific and engineering software to develop algorithms, model systems, and deploy software.

A successful candidate begins their career in the Engineering Development Group (EDG). As a member of the EDG team, you receive training on MathWorks processes, tools, and customer use cases in core product areas. You also receive technical writing training and coaching before transitioning to the engineering technical writer role.

Responsibilities

EDG team members receive extensive training, mentoring, and coaching that enables them to transition into a team as a software technical writer aligned with their skillset , interests , and organizational needs. Your specific responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to high impact technical projects with documentation teams to strengthen your technical and professional skills, and help advance your career.

  • Provide technical support to MathWorks customers for highly complex technical issues in MATLAB, Simulink, and our entire suite of products.

  • Leverage Agentic AI to support and enhance technical writing activities such as writing code, developing examples, and resolving technical issues, while applying sound engineering judgment and best practices:

  • Build product and technical knowledge by supporting our users and responding to inquiries.

  • Research and represent product use cases.

  • Translate research into content specifications.

  • Demonstrate features, workflows, and applications with goal-oriented topics and examples.

  • Review and respond to product developments.

  • Develop and demonstrate leadership skills through opportunities to coach and mentor others, and initiate and lead process improvement projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree, or equivalent experience) is required.

Additional Qualifications

  • Qualified candidates for this role must have a degree in Engineering or other STEM field

  • Experience with programming languages or computational tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or C++

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Curiosity, learning agility, and a willingness to explore new engineering tools, domains and technologies, including AI-assisted workflows

  • Proficiency with MathWorks products is a plus

  • Strong system design and systems thinking skills
