Full job description

The Opportunity As a Payroll Specialist on our Customer Success team, you’ll be the go-to expert helping our customers run accurate, compliant, and on-time payrolls through Lumber. You’ll work hand-in-hand with construction business owners, controllers, and HR teams—guiding them through setup, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring they get the most out of Lumber’s payroll and workforce management features. If you love problem-solving, know your way around payroll systems, and enjoy helping customers succeed, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage and support customer payroll processing through Lumber’s platform, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to customers, providing guidance on prevailing wage, union CBA rules, certified payroll, and deductions.
  • Partner with Customer Success Managers to onboard new clients, assist with payroll setup, and train users on best practices.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product and Engineering teams to escalate and resolve payroll-related issues.
  • Monitor customer accounts to identify potential issues, provide proactive support, and help reduce churn.
  • Keep up to date with construction payroll trends, tax updates, and compliance requirements.
  • Deliver exceptional customer experiences that align with Lumber’s mission to make construction work simpler. What We’re Looking For
  • 3+ years of experience in payroll processing, preferably in construction or with union/prevailing wage payrolls.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, wage and hour laws, and multi-state payroll.
  • Familiarity with certified payroll reporting, fringe benefits, and workers’ compensation audits.
  • Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
