Full job description
Description
The Investment Management System (IMS) is the system of record for Amazon's corporate investment and warrant portfolios — billions of dollars in value across 700+ positions, spanning minority investments, the four corporate funds, and commercial-activity warrants. IMS serves teams across the Mergers & Acquisitions ecosystem, including Corporate Development, Business Development, Accounting, Tax, Legal, and Treasury.
When someone needs to know what a holding is worth today, how much of a warrant Amazon has earned through its commercial deals, or simply what Amazon owns and what it's worth, IMS is where they get the answer. IMS data feeds directly into Amazon's financial statements and supports real-time investment decisions, so accuracy and timeliness are non-negotiable. A core part of this role is keeping IMS accurate, trustworthy, and current — continuously ingesting new deals and milestones, and integrating and regularly reconciling with other internal and external systems (Amazon Lantern, Accounting, Tax, Legal, Treasury, Factset).
We are a small, high-ownership technical team with a unique organizational structure: we sit within a larger finance team. This is a deliberate decision to embed technical expertise directly alongside finance partners, enabling rapid collaboration, troubleshooting, and delivery. As a result, this role requires close, effective collaboration and communication with both technical colleagues and non-technical stakeholders and team members. The role indexes high on visibility, ownership, and business acumen.
You will lead the IMS technical program end to end. You will lead a team of 2-3 software engineers, set technical direction with them, drive design decisions, and raise the bar on engineering quality through design and code reviews. You will design and build the services, data pipelines, and web application that power IMS, and you will own the programs that deliver them. That means working directly with stakeholders and leaders across the M&A ecosystem, translating their needs into clear requirements, and driving the work through to reliable, compliant outcomes. You will drive the IMS roadmap end-to-end, prioritizing work, managing stakeholder expectations, and balancing near-term operational needs with longer-term platform investments.
Tech stack: a serverless, event-driven backend on AWS (Python), a PostgreSQL database, a React web application, and an AI assistant built on Amazon Bedrock — all deployed through infrastructure-as-code and Amazon's internal CI/CD, with AI-assisted development tools used daily.
Key job responsibilities
-
Own the technical program for IMS: the services and APIs that serve investment and warrant data, the quarterly data pipelines that carry positions from one quarter to the next, and the checks that catch when IMS and upstream finance systems disagree. Drive the architecture decisions with the engineering team.
-
Define requirements and acceptance criteria for the data model and the financial calculations (such as IRR, unrealized value, and warrant vesting progress). Go deep enough to validate the results and challenge design trade-offs.
-
Own the roadmap and delivery for the React web application and the Amazon Bedrock-based AI assistant, from requirements through launch.
-
Work directly with stakeholders and leaders across the M&A ecosystem to turn open-ended requests into clear requirements, prioritize the roadmap, manage dependencies and expectations, and balance near-term operational needs with longer-term platform investments.
-
Run the deadline-bound work the team cannot miss, including the quarterly close.
-
Lead integrations with partner data teams across multiple systems.
-
When it speeds up a decision, prototype, script, or query data yourself. You can read and review production code, but the engineering team owns it.
