Sappi Somerset, is one of the largest, most advanced and high performing mills in North America with one of the lowest mill emissions. Our packaging papers are suited across a range of market segments including health and beauty, confectionery, premium beverages and food packaging. We manufacture labels for cans and jars and our graphic papers are used in direct mail, magazines and catalogs. Nearly $1 billion in the last decade has been invested to expand into sustainable and renewable SBS board grades for folding carton and foodservice, including the rebuilds of PM1 in 2018 and PM2, to be completed in 2025. The Somerset mill focuses on safety, sustainability, quality, and innovation.

Sappi, a leader in the manufacture of coated fine paper, is currently seeking candidates for a Millwright Journeyman at our Skowhegan, Maine facility.

Sappi offers a Journeyman A rate of $45.16 per hour and vacation service credit for previous industrial experience for up to 12 years.

Preferred candidates will possess the following:

  • 5 years in trade

  • Ability to successfully complete "Qualified Welder" testing according to Sappi weld procedures.

  • Demonstrate ability to read blueprints and working drawings, plan and lay out work, and take accurate measurements using devices common to the craft.

  • Demonstrate ability to perform alignments with laser alignment equipment on high speed rotating equipment

  • Have general knowledge of and ability to repair equipment with materials such as mild steel, stainless, cast iron, fiberglass, and aluminum.

  • Familiarity with associated Pulp and Paper industry equipment.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, plan, troubleshoot, and lead repairs to complex mill equipment.

  • Demonstrated experience repairing and setting up precision rotating equipment
