Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join a mission-critical engineering team supporting advanced mission systems and integration architectures. This individual will be responsible for requirements development, systems architecture, software architecture, design, implementation, integration, testing, and ongoing support of complex embedded software solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with C/C++ software development in Linux and real-time operating system environments and will contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining embedded software, supporting hardware/software integration activities, utilizing code coverage and test automation tools, and ensuring compliance with established engineering processes and standards. This engineer will conduct independent technical investigations of complex issues, improve system performance, and help resolve challenging system requirements concerns. They will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to develop, integrate, and test products while addressing subsystem compatibility and interface issues. The role also requires participation in specification reviews, architecture reviews, code reviews, and test reviews to ensure successful product delivery. Additional responsibilities include supporting software integration, verification and validation efforts, troubleshooting production issues, and providing timely problem resolution. The ideal candidate is a collaborative communicator who can effectively work across multiple engineering disciplines while contributing technical leadership and innovative problem-solving skills.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience (or 2+ years with a graduate degree)

  • 3+ years of embedded software development experience

  • 3+ years of C++ systems development experience

  • Experience with Linux and Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)

  • Experience with hardware/software integration and testing

  • Python-based test automation experience

  • Experience with APIs, BSPs, drivers, and distributed systems design

  • Experience participating in architecture reviews and major design reviews Understanding of software/computer architecture and hardware/software co-design

  • Active Secret Clearance

  • DO-178C or other safety-critical software development experience

  • Experience with mission computing, memory systems, and display systems

  • Experience with OpenGL

  • Experience with VxWorks, LynxOS, or Integrity RTOS

  • Intel x86, ARM, FPGA, and SoC experience

  • 3+ years of Linux device driver development

  • Linux kernel-space/user-space development experience

  • Bash scripting and Release Engineering experience Experience with configuration management, debug/trace analysis, and software verification/validation
