Staff Accountant

Description

A North County construction company is adding a Staff Accountant to support its growing accounting operation. This is a hands-on position for someone who wants exposure to both traditional accounting and job/project accounting.

You'll work closely with Project Managers and Operations to make sure project costs, vendor activity, billing, and financial reporting are accurate.

What You'll Own:

• Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts

• Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations

• Assist with month-end and year-end close

• Review project-related expenses and job costs

• Track labor, materials, subcontractor, and other project expenses

• Assist with progress billing and customer invoices

• Reconcile subcontractor and vendor accounts

• Review project budgets versus actual spending

• Assist with job profitability reporting

• Monitor AP and AR activity related to projects

• Track retainage, deposits, and other project-specific balances

• Prepare financial reports and accounting schedules

• Research unusual transactions and discrepancies

• Assist with cash flow reporting

• Support external accountants, auditors, and tax professionals

• Help maintain accounting procedures and internal controls

Requirements

• 2–4 years of accounting experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

• Strong Excel skills

• General ledger and reconciliation experience

• Understanding of month-end close

• Construction or project accounting experience strongly preferred

• Experience with job costing is a major plus

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent attention to detail
