Job Description

Who You Are

The Associate Field Service Engineer will be responsible for providing extensive service to most commonly encountered products and problems without assistance. An intermediate-level position requiring broad technical knowledge with the regular application of advanced engineering principles, practices and techniques.

The candidate under consideration will be based in Iowa. Reporting to our Minneapolis, MN office, the Associate Field Service Engineer will provide support to customers in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota states with on-site repair, troubleshooting and /or maintenance services for CNC’s and related system peripheral equipment.

How It's Done

  • Provide maintenance and troubleshooting for CNCs, servo, spindle drive and motor products. Investigate customer complaints and perform analysis to determine the cause(s). Operate with consistent support of Supervisor/Manager.

  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and classroom instruction.

  • Understand and promote the company goal of exceeding customer expectations while learning how to deal with customers.

  • Report quality problems to the appropriate manager/supervisor as they are encountered.

  • Control inventory as assigned.

  • Learn service operations, procedures and policies, including timely and accurate submission of required paperwork.

  • Maintain all company-provided equipment, including tools.

  • Travel as required within company-provided directions and guidelines.

  • Travel to customer sites with some overnight travel ranging from 4-6 nights per month.

  • Able to travel by airplane for training purposes/ meetings as needed.

  • Supervisor/Manager provides detailed instructions and screens assignments to ensure a proper match for the Service

  • Engineer’s level of expertise.

  • Appropriate diagnosis, repair and parts needs will be discussed with the Supervisor/Manager. Will frequently work with a more senior-level Field Service Engineer.

What You Need

  • High School Diploma or GED Proven experience providing customer support preferably in a technical customer-facing role or field service environment

  • Familiarity with common electrical components such as relays, circuit breakers, sensors, and motors

  • Maintain tools and equipment while transporting parts and materials (up to 75 lbs) to customer locations

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills in identifying and resolving equipment issues

  • Ability to analyze problems, select preliminary solutions, and adapt approaches as needed

  • Ability to learn quickly and effectively apply new concepts to changing technical environments

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in CNC systems and related equipment

  • Flexibility in traveling 80% - 90% to customer sites

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license and maintain a personal vehicle for business use, with the ability to travel throughout the assigned service area as required

What Would Be Even Better

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Electronics or Mechatronics, Technical Trade School graduate and/or relevant work experience in a related field

  • Two years of relevant experience in a technical customer support or field service environment

FANUC American is seeking a qualified applicant for an Associate Field Service Engineer role. The pay range for this position is $53,500 - $85,000 per year. The pay range listed is based on both salary and other compensation, including bonuses and profit sharing, that an employee may be paid during their employment with FANUC America. Benefits include medical insurance, 401k savings, paid vacation, vision insurance, dental insurance, tuition reimbursements, disability insurance, life insurance, and paid holidays. A compensation package offered to a successful applicant will ultimately be determined by consideration of a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, an applicant’s geographic location, educational attainment, and level of experience.
