What You Will Do:

Pratt & Whitney's Holt, Michigan facility is seeking a Senior Tooling Engineer to ensure the design, manufacture, readiness, and continuous quality of tools, fixtures, and gages that enable reliable production across our sites.

The Senior Tooling Engineer will lead full-lifecycle tooling activities—from concept/design and vendor sourcing to installation, commissioning, prove-out, and standardized handover—while collaborating with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Program Management to meet technical expectations and process requirements.

  • Design molds/dies for aerospace components involving sheet metals and fiber‑reinforced composites.

  • Design jigs/fixtures to locate and assemble composite laminated structures, bonded metal components, and complex aerospace assemblies.

  • Create assembly/detail models and perform dimensional verification using Pro/Engineer (Pro/E) or UG/NX (Unigraphics NX) with strong NX competency.

  • Develop tool specifications and procurement documentation; participate in supplier screening/selection and coordinate tool build schedules.

  • Conduct tool reviews with Manufacturing and Design Engineering; lead shop-floor prove-out with ME, Operations, and Quality.

  • Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Program Management to align tooling requirements and resolve design ambiguities.

  • Establish standard processes for the Plant 5 Tooling Crib and industrial 3D printer management; define standardized handover procedures and acceptance criteria.

  • Ensure tooling requirements are understood, quoted, and managed in production; drive technical reviews with internal stakeholders and vendors.

  • Monitor tooling quality through periodic reviews and checklists; standardize best practices across PWAA sites.

  • Provide ISO9001/AS9000 documentation support for tooling activities.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing, quality, tool room/tool design or similar environment OR a master's degree and 3 or more years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing, quality, tool room/tool design or similar environment

  • Demonstrated skill using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) to analyze data, prepare technical reports, and present engineering findings

  • Hands‑on experience with CAD/CAM systems such as Pro/Engineer (Creo) and Siemens UG/NX, including the ability to build complex models, create assemblies, and generate toolpaths.

  • Deep capability in NX, particularly in modeling, drafting, and manufacturing modules, with the ability to troubleshoot design issues and support manufacturability reviews

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience with 3D-printed plastics, welding, fabrication, and operation of industrial 3D printers.

  • Background supporting prototype/production startups and manufacturing assembly process design/qualification.

  • Knowledge of composite component fabrication, bonded metals, aerospace hardware, and composite/bonding tool design.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and continuous improvement programs such as Six Sigma.
