Director, Total Rewards, Systems & Analytics

Remote role for candidates located in HackerOne's San Francisco Bay, CA Austin, TX or Seattle, WA hiring hubs

Position Summary

Compensation, benefits, systems, and analytics are how a company keeps its promises to the people who build it — and at HackerOne, you'll own all four. As Director, Total Rewards, Systems & Analytics, you'll design how we pay, reward, and understand our global workforce, turning a fast-scaling People function into one that runs on trusted data and durable systems. This is a rare chance to build the reward philosophy, the HR technology backbone, and the people-analytics practice of a company trusted by Anthropic, GitHub, Goldman Sachs, and the U.S. Department of Defense — and to shape the standards our leaders use to make every talent decision. In this role, you'll lead the Total Rewards, People Systems, and People Analytics department and set the multi-year strategy for compensation, benefits, HRIS (Workday), and workforce reporting. You'll translate company strategy into departmental goals, own org design and hiring within your teams, and partner closely with Finance, Legal, and the executive team on pay equity, annual compensation cycles, board-ready workforce metrics, and the systems roadmap that makes all of it scale. Along the way, you'll develop the managers and specialists on your teams into the next generation of People leaders. At HackerOne, we embrace a Flexible Work approach that gives us the freedom to do our best work while also fostering the connections and community that make us stronger. Reflecting this philosophy, this is a remote role for candidates based on the West Coast of the United States (Pacific time zone). We believe this balance of proximity and flexibility gives Hackeronies the chance to occasionally come together – fostering collaboration, connection, and in-person moments that enrich our culture – while still preserving the benefits of remote work.

Primary Responsibilities Success in the Director, Total Rewards, Systems & Analytics role will be accomplished by delivering on the responsibilities below in alignment with the Values and Principles that define how we work at HackerOne.

  • Own HackerOne's global Total Rewards strategy — compensation structure, pay bands and leveling, equity, and benefits — aligning it to company priorities and holding the function accountable for outcomes, not just plans, demonstrating Own the Outcome through clear tradeoffs, durable ownership systems, and results leaders can trust.

  • Lead and grow the Total Rewards, People Systems, and People Analytics teams, shaping the department's structure through scalable systems, strategic delegation, and people development — Multiplying Your Impact by developing managers and specialists into future People leaders and representing the function in cross-org forums.

  • Build the People Analytics practice that gives HackerOne a single, trusted view of its workforce — headcount, attrition, pay equity, and engagement — embedding Data-Driven Decision Making by creating scalable outcome tracking, aligning cross-functionally on definitions and standards, and holding teams to evidence over assumption.

  • Own the People technology roadmap anchored on Workday, connecting AI-native redesign priorities to how you allocate resources so the function becomes AI Native rather than AI-augmented — and making the quality of AI-assisted work part of how the team's performance is evaluated.

  • Run the annual compensation and benefits cycles - market benchmarking, merit, bonus, and equity planning - and re-architect them from First Principles rather than short-term workarounds, simplifying the interfaces between People, Finance, and managers so the process scales as the company grows.

  • Operationalize change across the function as HackerOne scales — designing Total Rewards and systems processes that respond to change without friction, committing resources with the information available, and equipping managers to lead their teams through change with Change Agility.

  • Partner with Finance, Legal, and the executive team on pay equity, budget and headcount planning, executive and board compensation materials, and regulatory compliance across the regions where HackerOne operates.

  • Establish the data governance, controls, and auditability that keep compensation and people data accurate, secure, and defensible — the foundation every downstream talent decision depends on.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in Total Rewards, compensation, analytics including designing and running compensation and benefits programs at scale.

  • 5+ years of people-leadership experience, including managing managers or team leads.

  • Hands-on ownership of an HRIS (Workday strongly preferred) and the surrounding People technology stack, including data integrity, integrations, and reporting.

  • Demonstrated experience building People analytics and workforce reporting that executives rely on to make decisions.

  • Experience partnering with Finance and Legal on pay equity, compensation cycles, and multi-region compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting executive and/or board-level compensation.

  • Global Total Rewards experience across multiple countries (e.g., the US and India).

  • Familiarity with market benchmarking frameworks such as Radford or Pave

  • Experience redesigning People workflows around AI capabilities.

At HackerOne, we embrace a Flexible Work approach that gives us the freedom to do our best work while also fostering the connections and community that make us stronger. Reflecting this philosophy, this is a remote role targeted for candidates within ~50 miles of San Francisco, CA. We believe this balance of proximity and flexibility gives Hackeronies the chance to occasionally come together – fostering collaboration, connection, and in-person moments that enrich our culture – while still preserving the benefits of remote work.
