Job Description
Required skills: Must be at least 18 years old. Able to physically perform the labor position and physical work demands listed below. All training is on the job; must pass a pre-employment drug screen and job-related physical, and abide by all company safety procedures.
Desired skills: Able to take directions and work independently and safely without direct supervision. Must be punctual and have consistent attendance.
Description of position and duties/responsibilities:
The entry-level Sawmill and Planer Operators will be trained to safely and efficiently operate a machine center in the sawmill and Planer departments to manufacture timber logs into finished lumber boards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Monitor equipment and lumber flow for issues that would interrupt production

Perform manual labor tasks, including sorting, stacking, and moving lumber as needed.

Assist with basic maintenance tasks when required

Follow all safety protocols and guidelines

Maintain a clean work area daily

Perform other duties as required.
PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS:
The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical sawmill environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill, ambient temperatures, and wood waste/dust exposure. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; for up to 10hours a day; use hands to grasp lumber or machinery controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; and the ability to communicate with other personnel. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
