Full job description

Locations: McLean, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Charlotte, New York, Hoboken, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago

At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.

We’ll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go. Join EY and help to build a better working world.

Digital assets are moving into the mainstream of financial services, changing how value is created, transferred, safeguarded and reported. As crypto-native companies and established institutions launch and scale blockchain-enabled products, finance leaders need advisers who can connect accounting judgment with product design, technology, regulation and execution.

The opportunity

As a Manager focused on digital assets in FSO FAAS, you will lead teams and advise crypto-native companies and established financial institutions on the accounting, reporting, controls and operating-model implications of new products, strategic transactions such as Mergers and Acquisitions (“M&A”) and regulatory developments. You will work across trading, custody, staking, stablecoins, tokenization, lending, mining and decentralized protocols while helping clients navigate technical accounting challenges, finance transformation initiatives and control environment enhancements. The role combines client leadership, technical accounting, finance transformation, engagement management and people development. You will have the opportunity to lead meaningful client workstreams, build trusted relationships and contribute to the growth of priority digital asset accounts.

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead digital asset engagements involving technical accounting, financial reporting, strategic transactions, audit and public company readiness, and SEC reporting.

  • Advise crypto-native companies and financial institutions as they evaluate, launch and scale products involving trading, custody, staking, stablecoins, tokenization, lending, mining and decentralized protocols.

  • Help clients modernize their finance functions, including digital asset subledger implementations, close and reporting processes, data integration, reconciliations and financial statement preparation.

  • Support clients in designing and enhancing control environments for digital asset activities, including controls over wallets, custody, transaction processing, valuation, completeness and financial reporting.

  • Lead engagement teams while managing scope, staffing, budgets, risks and communications, and coordinate specialists across accounting, assurance, tax, technology, valuation, cybersecurity and regulatory matters.

  • Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders, facilitate workshops and executive discussions, and identify opportunities to expand relationships and services.

  • Develop Seniors and Staff while using data analytics, AI-enabled applications and other emerging technologies to enhance the quality and efficiency of client delivery.

Skills and attributes for success

Success requires strong accounting judgment and the ability to move between technical literature, product mechanics, blockchain data, finance processes and client implications. You should create structure in ambiguous situations, challenge assumptions constructively and keep teams focused on both quality and execution. The strongest candidates can explain not only the accounting conclusion, but also what it means for systems, controls, disclosures and operating decisions.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related business discipline and at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably including public accounting, financial reporting or accounting advisory experience.

  • An active CPA license.

  • Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and demonstrated experience researching, documenting, reviewing and presenting complex accounting conclusions.

  • Experience managing engagements or significant workstreams, including planning, staffing, budgeting, risk management, quality control and client communication.

  • A record of coaching teams, reviewing work and delivering high-quality outcomes under compressed timelines.

  • Strong facilitation, writing, presentation and relationship-building skills across technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel and work beyond standard hours when client needs require it.

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Experience with digital asset companies, blockchain-enabled products or financial institutions developing digital asset capabilities.

  • Understanding of how banks, broker-dealers, exchanges, asset managers, payment companies and other regulated institutions evaluate and operationalize emerging financial products.

  • Familiarity with digital asset products and infrastructure, such as trading, custody, staking, stablecoins, tokenization, mining, lending or exchanges.

  • Experience with finance transformation, financial reporting, internal controls, strategic transactions, or audit / public company readiness.

  • Interest in developing digital asset solutions, market insights, client relationships and technology-enabled delivery approaches.

What we look for

We look for pragmatic leaders with technical credibility and a genuine interest in how digital assets are reshaping financial services. Strong Managers understand how products work, translate complexity into clear choices, develop their teams and build trust by surfacing risks early and following through on commitments. They are equally comfortable reviewing a technical analysis, tracing a transaction through wallets and subledgers, leading a client workshop and helping shape the next opportunity.
