ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE

John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V. Mason, John Jay is a federally designated Hispanic-serving institution, it is ranked third in the nation in Black student success, and it is a top ten institution for promoting student social mobility. POSITION OVERVIEW

APPLE Corps is a leadership program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice committed to helping students explore public service, social justice, equity issues in policing, and civic and community engagement in New York City. Students are supported by the coordinated care of a team of academic and career advisors for four years, including summers.

Reporting to the APPLE Corps Program Manager, the Student Success Coordinator (Academic Program Coordinator) will support the engagement, retention, and academic success of APPLE Corps students. The Coordinator will play a central role in building community among APPLE Corps cohorts, coordinating peer mentorship, implementing co-curricular programming, and providing targeted sophomore support and advisement.

In addition to the general duties, the Student Success Coordinator (Academic Program Coordinator) will:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise up to eight APPLE Corps peer success coaches.

  • Develop and facilitate student success workshops for peer success coaches and APPLE Corps participants.

  • Coordinate peer-led outreach activities that support recruitment, engagement, and retention of program participants.

  • Provide sophomore-focused advisement and support, helping students navigate the transition from first to second year and preparing them for upper-division requirements.

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of co-curricular programming, including APPLE Corps-wide meetings and events held throughout the academic year.

  • Collaborate with APPLE Corps program staff to align supports and strengthen student services.

  • Create content for program communications, promotional materials, and manage the APPLE Corps social media presence.

  • Participate in professional development to remain current with best practices in studentengagement, peer leadership, and academic success initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be a team player with a demonstrated ability in peer program design and implementation and with extensive experience in leadership development for urban college students. The ability to communicate clearly to students, faculty, and administrators orally and in writing is a must. Strong preference will be given to candidates with

  • Leadership development experience.

  • Familiarity with social media applications.

  • Excellent organizational abilities.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Provides basic operational and analytical support related to a College's specialized academic program.

  • Supports the directors and managers with orientation preparation, student advisement regarding program requirements, and providing basic information about financial aid and registration

  • Manages office records including faculty files; prepares reports and surveys; collects and maintains statistical data on program activities

  • Serves as liaison to various College offices to provide service delivery and appropriate referrals to students

  • Collects and reviews syllabi to ensure compliance with standards

  • Serves as resource person for students and faculty regarding program policies and procedures

  • May supervise office operations and/or monitor department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$68,470 - $79,974 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
