Job Title: Assistant or Associate Professor

Description
The Chemistry Department at Montana Technological University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, at the rank of assistant or associate professor, with expertise in one more of the following subfields: inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, computational chemistry, and/or analytical chemistry. Candidates must be prepared to develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, conduct sponsored research, participate in departmental activities, and serve the profession. The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program, preferentially in alignment with the university’s priorities in areas of energy, critical minerals, environmental restoration, or other national strategic needs.
Education & Experience
The candidate must hold an earned doctoral degree by the position start date of August 16, 2027 in chemistry, or a closely related field, with an emphasis in inorganic chemistry, computational chemistry, biochemistry, and/or analytical chemistry. Postdoctoral or other postgraduate experience is preferred but not required. University level teaching experience in chemistry is preferred. The candidate's experience must reflect an ability to conduct novel, impactful research relevant to the areas of interest identified above. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate an ability to utilize effective pedagogies to create impactful classroom experiences for our students. Finally, the ideal candidate will have good interdisciplinary skills and the ability to interact productively with colleagues and students in a collaborative environment.

Duties:
Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Undergraduate courses will include those in areas of the candidate’s areas of expertise (inorganic chemistry, computational chemistry, analytical chemistry, and/or biochemistry) as well as introductory level courses.
Graduate courses will depend on the successful candidate’s areas of expertise and will serve the needs of current and emerging interdisciplinary doctoral and master’s programs.
Advise and mentor students
Participate in departmental activities
Develop and maintain an externally funded research program, working with both undergraduate and graduate level students.
Required Qualifications:
Earned doctoral degree in chemistry, or a closely related field by the position start date of August 16, 2027, with an emphasis in biochemistry, computational chemistry, analytical chemistry, and/or inorganic chemistry
Preferred Qualifications:
Postdoctoral or other postgraduate experience
University level teaching experience
Experience in developing new programs within a university department
Experience with writing grants
Experience in supporting students in research
Experience in publishing research results
Demonstrated scholarly expertise aligned with the university’s priorities in areas of energy, critical minerals, environmental restoration, or other national strategic needs.
