Workday Financials Boomi Connector Architect

Job Description

This Solution Architect owns the Workday integration architecture with deep specialization in Boomi connectivity, Workday orchestration, Workday messaging and Reports-as-a-Service (RaaS). The role designs how Workday exchanges data with the application landscape using the Boomi Workday connector, event-driven and message-based patterns, and Workday-hosted reports as governed data sources.

The architect serves as the technical bridge between Workday and the Boomi iPaaS and API gateway teams, defining reusable integration patterns, canonical data models and end-to-end flows that are secure, observable and cost-effective to operate.

Key Responsibilities

• Boomi connector design: Architect Boomi processes that use the Workday connector (Workday Web Services, REST and report-based operations), including authentication, pagination, throttling, error handling and reusable process libraries.

• Orchestration: Design multi-step, cross-system workflows using Workday orchestration capabilities (Workday Orchestrate and Studio-based orchestration) and Boomi process orchestration, defining where logic belongs in each tool.

• Messaging and events: Define event-driven patterns using Workday messaging and business-process event triggers, including topic and queue design, delivery guarantees, idempotency, replay and dead-letter handling.

• RaaS strategy: Establish standards for Workday custom reports exposed as web services: design for performance, prompts and filters, incremental extracts, security, and clear guidance on when RaaS is appropriate versus APIs or EIBs.

• Canonical models: Work with the Boomi and API gateway architects to align Workday data to enterprise canonical models and API contracts.

• Security: Define ISU/ISSG, OAuth 2.0 and certificate-based authentication models and secrets management across Workday and Boomi.

• Governance and deliverables: Produce architecture decision records, solution designs and integration blueprints; present to leadership, steering committees and the ARB.

• Reliability and observability: Set standards for logging, monitoring, alerting, reconciliation and supportability across Workday and Boomi.

Skills and Requirements

• 10+ years in enterprise integration, with 5+ years of Workday integration experience.

• Hands-on, production-level experience building and architecting Boomi integrations that use the Workday connector.

• Experience with Workday orchestration capabilities and Workday Studio for complex, multi-step integrations.

• Practical experience designing event-driven or message-based integrations with Workday.

• Strong expertise in building and tuning Workday custom reports and exposing them via RaaS, including calculated fields and report security.

• Solid command of SOAP, REST, OAuth 2.0, XML/JSON and XSLT.

• Ability to communicate design trade-offs to both engineers and senior business and IT leaders.

• Boomi Professional Developer or Architect certification.

• Workday Integration or Pro certification.

• Experience with API gateways and enterprise API management.

• Experience rationalizing a large integration estate.
