2027 Powder Processing Process Engineering Internship ATI Specialty Materials

Location: Monroe, NC Bakers South

Program Duration: 10 Weeks | Summer 2027

Target Students: Graduate and Undergraduate students currently pursuing Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related Engineering disciplines

Optimize Powder Processing Intern in Process Engineering at ATI

At ATI, we engineer specialty materials that power the next generation of aircraft, spacecraft, surgical implants, and energy systems. As a Powder Processing Process Engineering Intern, youll work alongside Engineering and Operations teams to improve powder processing operations, develop innovative process solutions, and support automation initiatives. Youll apply your engineering knowledge to hands-on projects focused on material characterization, process improvement, and manufacturing efficiency.

What Youll Work On

Depending on your project assignment, you may:

  • Create and analyze seeded heat compacts using BPO materials to support an updated fingerprint database.

  • Develop a process to limit open-air dumping of revert powder from screening to VIM.

  • Support implementation of the auto-feed program in screening to improve process efficiency and consistency.

  • Analyze process and material data to identify opportunities for quality and process improvement.

  • Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to develop and implement practical improvements to powder processing operations.
