Full job description

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) ( https://www.dbmi.pitt.edu ) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is recruiting faculty in biomedical informatics for appointment stream, tenure-track and tenured positions . The University of Pittsburgh has more than 40 years of history in applying artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) to biomedical informatics, from some of the earliest work in medical decision support and expert systems to current efforts to develop and apply AI/ML across clinical and health informatics, clinical research informatics, population health informatics, translational bioinformatics, and imaging informatics. This work spans anesthesiology, critical care, neurology, pediatrics, oncology, infectious diseases, and other domains. We seek creative, productive, and collaborative colleagues who will build on this legacy by applying informatics and AI/ML methods to fundamental biomedical questions and by engaging in team science. We are particularly interested in expertise in multimodal data analysis, clinical imaging, target trial emulation, analysis of complex molecular data, clinical decision support, implementation science, and research evidence support tools. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished scholar working at the intersection of AI/ML and biomedical informatics, with one or more active federally funded research projects. Candidates must hold either a PhD (in fields including, but not limited to, biomedical informatics, health informatics, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, or information science) or a professional health degree (e.g., MD, RN, PharmD) with informatics training. We welcome clinicians, including internists, pediatricians, surgeons, psychiatrists, nurses, and pharmacists, particularly those with an AI/ML research track record and an interest in clinical informatics, precision medicine, or public health informatics. For an Assistant Professor position candidates must hold a doctoral or appropriate professional degree and have fewer than five years of relevant experience. They should demonstrate effective teaching ability, experience in advanced study and research, or professional expertise that enables them to make meaningful academic contributions. Candidates should also show promise of originality and excellence in their field of scholarship, as well as the ability to guide, mentor, and support students. For an Associate Professor position, qualifications are as View the full job description on the employer's website. Equal employment opportunity, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
