At AES, we believe in tackling challenges together with our customers, leveraging our collective experience and resources to achieve success in every project.

Role Overview

As an Electrical Estimator, you will support electric utility infrastructure projects by developing distribution and power system designs, project estimates, construction packages, and technical documentation for new customer installations, system upgrades, facility replacements, and reliability improvement projects. Working closely with utility clients, project managers, engineers, field personnel, and customers, you will help transform project requirements into cost-effective and construction-ready solutions.

This role is ideal for a technically minded professional who enjoys problem-solving, collaborating with stakeholders, and contributing to projects that improve the safety, reliability, and performance of utility systems.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Prepare electrical distribution designs and construction packages in accordance with NESC requirements, utility standards, and customer specifications.

  • Develop estimates, cost analyses, and project documentation for new customer services, system upgrades, overhead and underground facility replacements, subdivision developments, and renewable energy interconnections.

  • Analyze engineering and construction requirements using utility modeling, estimating, and design tools to develop safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions.

  • Perform field reviews and site assessments to gather project information, validate design requirements, and support estimate development.

  • Prepare construction-ready drawings, equipment specifications, easement documentation, contracts, and work orders.

  • Collaborate with utility customers, engineers, project managers, municipal agencies, contractors, and property owners to ensure project success.

  • Review designs and estimates to verify compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, budget expectations, and client objectives.

What You Will Bring

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical utility design, construction estimating, distribution engineering, or related infrastructure projects.

  • Working knowledge of electric distribution systems and utility construction practices.

  • Familiarity with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements and utility design standards.

  • Experience preparing project estimates, cost analyses, engineering documentation, and construction packages.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Experience using utility engineering and design software such as SPIDAcalc, O-Calc, CYME, or similar platforms.

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS-based drafting platforms, or utility mapping systems.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Business, or a related field.

  • Experience supporting electric cooperatives, investor-owned utilities, municipalities, or engineering consulting firms.

  • Knowledge of overhead and underground distribution construction practices.

  • Experience with renewable energy interconnections, subdivision development projects, or customer-driven utility service projects.

Work Environment & Preferences

  • Work Model: Hybrid, office-based, field-based, or remote arrangements may be available depending on client and project requirements.

  • Preferred Schedule: Full-time.

  • Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to client sites, project locations, field reviews, and utility facilities.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in both office and field environments. Field visits may require walking uneven terrain, inspecting utility infrastructure, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
