Overview

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Hoisting Supervisor and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will manage a hoisting crew directing safe, compliant care of the WIPP hoists to maintain access to the WIPP underground. Focus on the safe operation, maintenance, and construction of shaft infrastructure, conveyances, and related underground access points. Provide direction, oversight and guidance to crew personnel. Ensure all procedures, policies and regulations are followed and ensure all requried training, qualification programs and documentation is properly maintained. Plan, schedule and assign work to personnel as necessary. Maintain appropriate interfaces with other departments supported by hoist crews. Ensure compliance with the bargaining unit contract. Ensure all work is performed safely and compliantley while providing timely support to mission objectives. May be assigned 7/10A, 7/10B, or 4/10 backshift, or other shifts as needed. Perform Lockout/Tagout responsibilities as qualified Authorizing Supervisor.

  • Operational Management: Direct daily hoist operations, that will ensure personnel safety and compliance to maintain access to the WIPP Underground

  • Provide operational support to hoisting operation crews.

  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all hoisting activities comply with statutory regulations (MSHA/local mining acts), company policies, and safety management systems.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor hoisting supervisors, technicians, and maintenance crews as required

  • Daily Supervision: Directly supervise hoisting personnel, assigning tasks and ensuring proper work procedures.

  • Inspections: Conduct daily or weekly inspections according to statutory requirements.

  • Safety Enforcement: Ensure all work is done under lockout/tagout procedures and that safety gear is used.

  • Maintenance Execution: Coordinate with maintenance planners to ensure repairs are done promptly.

  • Reporting: Maintain accurate shift logs, production reports, and incident reports.

  • Emergency Response: Lead and/or assist in-field response to incidents as required

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, or

  • Associate’s degree with four (4) years of relevant experience, or

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of relevant experience is required.

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).

  • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

Definition of Experience:

Preferred Requirements

  • Mine Operations Management/Supervisory experience is preferred.

  • At least five (5) years of experience with mine hoisting and/or shaft system engineering, operating, or maintenance is preferred.

Salary Range

$70,972 to $133,850 per year. Exempt grade level(s) 28-31. The specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
