Position Highlights

Spencer Hospital is a rural hospital located in northwest Iowa employing over 500+ employees. Positions at Spencer Hospital are not affiliated with Avera; however, we collaborate to provide services to the communities we serve. Employment offers, if accepted, are exclusively with Spencer Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides general office and complex secretarial duties for Home Health & Hospice including reception, taking referrals, managing documents, developing reports, filing, billing duties, and office communication.

  • Answers phones, screens and responds to calls and visits from patients and families in a professional and efficient manner; relays calls and messages to appropriate individuals and departments. Determines urgency of situations, calms patients/families if necessary and responds by getting emergency and pertinent requests to staff in the field.

  • Maintains awareness of staff schedules and facilitates communication between staff members.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of all services available to patients and families.

  • Send out mailings for bereavement, volunteers, and general hospice activities.

  • Maintains bereavement lists.

  • Tracks volunteer hours.

  • Orders supplies and equipment for office, residence and patients.

  • Maintain ongoing upgrades and assist in the planning and application of the system as well as staff education to assure maximum utilization of the system aimed at cost effective and quality services.

  • Completes accurate and timely admitting/discharge/billing data into the current technology systems.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required

  • Associate's degree from a college or technical school; or 6 months relatable experience

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Compassionate, patient-focused approach to customer service

  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Proficient with technology and web-based programs

Schedule:

  • 56 hours per pay period - part-time benefit eligible

  • Schedule based on the need for office coverage Mon-Fri

  • 3-4 days per week

  • 7-8 hour shifts between 8a-4:30p
