Position Highlights

Spencer Hospital is a rural hospital located in northwest Iowa employing over 500+ employees. Positions at Spencer Hospital are not affiliated with Avera; however, we collaborate to provide services to the communities we serve. Employment offers, if accepted, are exclusively with Spencer Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership to the Health Information Department of the Spencer Hospital.

  • Develops and monitors appropriate indicators for staffing, productivity, quality, fiscal accountability, budget, and continuous improvement for the areas of responsibility.

  • Manages the operations of the department including human resources, budget and finance, short and long range planning, legal and regulatory compliance, and providing professional and/or technical expertise.

  • Interacts with physicians on documentation and record completion related issues.

  • Responsible for maintaining unbilled accounts receivable within established standards.

  • Oversees legal issues involving the medical record including interaction with attorneys and court appearances.

  • Oversees the medical staff credentialing and privileging as well as the allied health professionals.

  • Responsible for working with the medical staff on bylaws revisions.

  • Has good knowledge of all areas within the patient accounting departments and leads to ensure both areas work as a team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in related field or equivalent experience

  • RHIA certification or RHIT from the American Health Information Manager Association required or willing to obtain upon hire

  • Minimum 3-5 years HIM / Coding experience

  • Supervisory or leadership experience

Schedule:

  • 7:30a-4p; Mon-Fri; salaried exempt

  • Schedule may fluctuate based on the needs on the department
