About the Role:
As a Chief Building Engineer Lead, you will serve as the technical and operational authority for a portfolio of 8 medical office buildings and clinics in Santa Maria, CA. This position requires a balance of leadership, strategic facility planning, and hands-on maintenance execution.
You will oversee facility operations, mentor the onsite maintenance team, and ensure that all building systems meet safety, performance, and compliance standards while minimizing client business disruption.
What You’ll Do:

Oversee facility maintenance of a portfolio of 8 medical office buildings and medical clinics Santa Maria, CA.

Lead operations, assign work orders, and provide technical and procedural training of coworkers.

Direct daily work orders and delegate assignments to team members.
-
Oversee and inspect work performed by staff and subcontractors to ensure completion, operational efficiency, and high-quality facility standards.

Monitor the work order system to ensure all tasks are completed within a 30-day window.

Consult with clients to schedule maintenance during off-peak hours to minimize business interruption.

Conduct routine onsite inspections to ensure facility conditions meet client expectations and environmental standards.

Perform complex preventive maintenance and corrective repairs independently.

Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including component replacement.

Execute plumbing maintenance, including leak repair, fixture installation, and general system maintenance.

Perform general infrastructure and Life Safety system maintenance.

Operate within design capabilities to ensure all equipment (fire alarms, HVAC, plumbing) functions as intended.

Ensure all work adheres to applicable building codes, governmental regulations, and company safety directives.

Maintain rigorous standards for building operations and site safety.

Respond to emergency situations and ask for help when needed.

Apply advanced knowledge to seek and develop new, better methods for accomplishing both individual and department objectives.

Showcase expertise in own job discipline and in-depth knowledge of other job disciplines within the organization function.

Coach others to develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in most or all areas within the function.

What You’ll Need:

High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 5-8 years of job-related experience. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered. Prior shift manager or supervisory experience preferred.

Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.

In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

Highly sophisticated math skills. Ability to calculate somewhat complex figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the Chief Building Engineer Lead position is $85,000 annually [or $40.87 per hour] and the maximum salary for the Chief Building Engineer Lead position is $87,000 annually [or $41.83 per hour]. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
