Full job description

Complement the Facilities Services Department management team mission with primary oversight of Central Heating Plant operations, steam & electrical power distribution systems, and operation & maintenance of campus mechanical systems. Provide key administrative support for Facilities Services Director, Safety and Regulatory Compliance, Project Management, Contractor coordination, and technical support for mechanical and electrical maintenance trades.

This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $90,836 - $106,351/year.

Core Responsibilities:

Establish and manage all logistics and service levels for the operation of College Central Heating Plant and all associated components for steam and electricity production to meet continuous campus demand, including: human resources, regulatory compliance, equipment reliability, contracted services coordination and facility planning.

Collaborates with the Chief Engineer - Central Heating Plant to ensure effective management of plant staff and operations, including: supervise, train, hire and evaluate approximately 7 hourly staff who maintain and operate the Central Heating Plant 24/7.

Collaborates with the Associate Director of O&M, Energy & Technology Manager and MEP trade shops to provide effective maintenance, operation and facility planning for all campus mechanical systems.

Support department safety and regulator compliance initiatives, including: all facets of the campus air pollution control permit, spill prevention control and countermeasure compliance, fire and carbon monoxide lifesafety system compliance and VOSHA compliance.

Manage a 10-year reliability plan for the campus steam and electrical distribution systems, and campus building mechanical systems. Design, coordinate and manage projects from this plan.

Initiate and manage minor and large-scale maintenance and renovation projects to include design consultant selection, coordination and oversight, and contractor / construction manager selection, coordination and oversight.

Manage an annual routine operating budget of approximately $5 million.

Manage numerous technical contracted services agreements and work flow to include: major HVAC equipment, steam and electric utility generation and distribution systems, and campus facilities.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering, or similar degree supplemented with extensive managerial experience is required. Registration as a Professional Engineer and/or Master’s Degree in Business Management preferred.

A valid driver's license.

Extensive experience with operation, maintenance and design of building mechanical, electrical, life safety and HVAC systems required. Energy generation and distribution technical and practical experience required.

Management experience, with a demonstrated record in directing service, operations, finance and human resources functions. Extensive knowledge of methods, equipment, and personnel management is required. Experience with strategic planning and program development. Must be familiar with computer-automated systems, record management and data base systems

Demonstrated leadership in implementing change, fostering a high level of teamwork, customer service and technological advancement required. Must be a self-starter, able to work effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment with frequently changing priorities. Must thrive with handling multiple tasks concurrently, attending to details, and meeting deadlines.

Knowledge of and experience with construction management, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Life Safety Codes, VOSHA and Agency of Natural Resources regulations.

Must be able to serve as “Manager on Call” according to a rotational schedule.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

Must be willing to work other than normal working hours and be willing to respond (if available) to emergency and service calls which occur outside of normal working hours.
